you could do it that way I guess, but the easiest way that I could think of is by getting on the hardwired computer that is directly connected to the router to get on the internet, once on the internet, in the address bar, type in this: "192.168.1.2". That's not a lot of info to go on, but let's try: first, you've got to set the router up for the WPA encryption and put the passphrase in there. You have to do that set-up while you're connected by wire to the router otherwise you'd lose the wifi connection half way through the process. Once the router is set up, do the matching thing on your computer, switch on wifi, and disconnect the cable from your computer to the router.
