Try the (Goldstar and Zenith) trick - with the unit on, but no discs inserted, press and hold STOP button on the front (not the remote) for 10 seconds, then release. This should revert progressive back to normal interlace output for your TV and may also turn off the progressive LED indicator on your unit.
I mentioned 2 other brands in parentheses - because the (press and hold STOP for 10 seconds) trick works for progressive on those.
If you have an old TV with no progressive scan there will be no picture on the screen if the progressive indicator is on. On some Sony DVD players the orange indicator itself is the button. Press it once more and you can disable it or else you will have to connect the DVD player to a progressive TV ( all flat panels are ) so you can see the menu. And in the video menu you can disable the progressive function ( you have to select interlaced video )
1 - Hold the clear tv buttom until all 4 light flash red 2- Press the red tv buttom 3- Press the amount of time needed on the up cursor ( around select buttom) until your tv shut down 4-When the tv goes off press the search buttom ( at the end on the right side ) 5-Press record
Then u can use the red tv buttom to control ur tv and u can control the volume on satelitte mode without going back to tv mode , if u press too much time while searching the code and the tv wont light back , do the same thing but instead pressing the up cursor press the down one to go back on the code it will be faster .
This way of finder code make the remote search 1 by one , usually dvd and other things else than television dont work , but give it a try might work but probably will just power on and off not more than that but will work fine with ur tv
to turn it off select connection method 3 above and progressive scanning mode, to set the mode, set progressive to off in the display menu so that the p scan indicator light on the front panel goes out. do all of this in interface mode. you can also do this by pressing and holding PLAY > on the front of the unit for more than 5 seconds, still watch for the p scan indicator to go off. this works best when the unit is connected directly to the television.
