I have the same problem. It started out a few months ago as taking longer and longer to get the intial picture to come up. Then the set began to flash during normal operation. The flahing got more frequent to the point where we could not watch it anymore. The sound was nover a problem. I had a repair shop indicate it could be a few things like high voltage power supply or a vertical thing (the picture never compressed from top and bottom to the middle and back, it was a complete on/off flash) My biggest question was bout how much to fix it and should I just trash it and not spen a dime. The set is 10 years old. Unfortunately both repair shops in town have closed up and I don't know how to get rid of it if I have to.

About the blinking, if it's not the tube could it be just solder joints? if so which
ones? If not what else could it be? (mine is a 36 in. Trinitron) Thanks!
P.S. a retired TV man is who told me it might be a soldering problem. Should I spend $40 to have him re-solder it?

The clicking suggests a power supply issue, a old trick I use in cases like this is a hairdryer, Try to heat (don't melt things) different boards carefully until you get a dramatic reaction, considering the brand which I do not like much less endorse, what is there to lose.

If you pinpoint the issue to one board try to locate that board.

My Panasonic PT-60LCX64 television keeps having a problem with temperature. Every few hours, the TV will turn off and the temp light will blink 4 times. It will turn back on if we give it a rest of 10

Sounds like a fan issue which is possiblt slowing down as it gets warm. I would try removing the rear cover and set a fan behind it blowing on the chassis and see if the set keeps running if so the fans would be suspect.

I have the same issue. Bought the TV 1/08 and it started showing those exact symptoms about 3-4 months ago. It generally progresses and gets worse. You can try to fix it as it's some kind of TAB connector issue, or keep calling Sony so that the 52" owners of the XBR4 and 5 series get the extended warranty just like the 46" owners received for the same series. If enough of us keep calling, they'll have to act.

My sony wega keeps cutting off then coming back .

a couple of years old can be a long time:

has the TV been on 24\7

It's the amount of hours that matters..

electrolytic capacitors typically last 3000 to 5000 hours....

Special "long life" caps last close to 7000
but the caps in most consumer electronics, even broadcast equipment 3-5K hours.

This is a fault that cannot be repaired by a user. It isn't even a feasible repair , just get a new box

Tv cuts off and green light flashes

If your set was manufactured around July 2005, you may need a firmware upgrade to solve this issue. On the Sony website you can enter your model # and serial # to see if you TV is affected. If so, it is easy to have done and may be free from Sony. It sounds like the issue they described in the writeup on the required formware update. I had mine done within few months of when i bought it (purchased in Dec 2005) and it has been working flawlessly since.

Good luck!
