Question about Marantz MM9000 5-Channel Amplifier

Marantz mm9000 has died

My m9000 has stopped working. I can hear the solenoids click when I power it up but there is no output. Also, the power and standby lamps fail to come on. I replaced the internal fuses as new. There is no sign of burning or any burning smell whatsoever. Any ideas?

The main power transformer may not have the correct voltages coming out of it. I would check the output volts at the terminals. I would also check the out puts from the solenoids.

MM9000 where the reley clicks in is most likely due to bad solder on input RCA board and output terminal board. Easy to fix.

Sometimes you wont smell anything funky.
If the outputs are powered by big module ICs , chances are that one or both have failed.

First things to check are all the speakers being properly connect ( AT BOTH ENDS)

How would you know if the transformer voltages are ok unless you had a service manual?

How to hook a carver TFM 45 to a Marantz AV 8003 pre amp with Bose 901 speakers thank you very much

The output of the Marantz will go to the input of the Carver. The Bose EQ has to go into a Tape Monitor on the Marantz, or, you can connect the Marantz output to the Bose line in(not tape in). The line output of the Bose, to the Carver input.

Is there anything else I'm missing?

How do I connect my marantz pm8200 to TV

You can connect TV RCA outputs to any line input e.g. tape, tuner, CD etc on the Marantz. If your TV doesn't have separate RCA outputs use a 'scart to RCA audio outputs' adaptor... TVs have a standard line output level compatible with most if not all hi-fi.

Are the speakers connected?

If so , you have an output DC voltage issue ( typically outputs dont want to see more than 100mV DC going to the speakers. If that happens , the Protect circuit will kick in. Find a repair tech in your area because I think this amp is worth fixing

Check the fuses if it has some. It could be a blown output transistor.

I have a marantz av550 pre amp/tuner. One of the audio outputs is not working. It had been cutting in and out for a while and now no output. It is not the cable, the amp or the speaker. Is this so

It sounds like the output transistors went bad What I would do is check all output transistors in the unit they are usually the large transsistors on heat sink that an ohm meter and check each transistor while unit is off and no power go base to collector then emmiter to base if you get o or continuity on those legs on any one they are bad .

Dear Sushant,    I do not think your use of an equalizer has caused any problems.  I will explain the proper use of the source/direct button.  This button's function is to monitor the output of a recorder connected to the record outputs of your amp.  When this button is pressed on the sound going to the speakers comes direct from the "source" (cd, radio tuner, phonograph etc.) when in the off position you can monitor the recording of whatever source is being recorded via the tape deck.  This switch must be off to record through the amps record outputs.    To test this, put a blank tape in the tape deck, choose the source as phono and place the dec in record/pause.  With the source direct button pressed on you should hear a change in volume when moving the amp's volume knob only.  When source direct is off you will be able to hear the output of the tape deck, so adjusting the tape deck's record level will also affect the volume coming out of the speakers.  more record level in/ more level out.!    Below is copied from page 9 of your user operation manual for Marantz's explanation of the source/direct button.  image.tiff

Have found the service manual for the MA700's on the Internet and gladfuly will share it.

My old Marantz Amp isn't well...

If there are any, make sure you have the set of speakers configured correctly on the amp. There maybe a set of buttons for example button A is for one set of speakers and button B is for the other, make sure this is all configured correctly
