Scanner Problem When I want to scan a document, the scanner will move to the left & read the document, but the arm will not retract to the right again. The machine throws up (Error) Scanner Failure - turn power off then on. When I turn the machine off - then on, the scanner arm will slowly drag back to it's normal position. I can then scan another page - machine locks up in the left - then error - then shut off - turn on - drags slooooooowly to the right. and on & on & on. The machine is 1 1/2 yrs. old. Can Lexmark x2470 scan and print a double sided document?

after reading the manual, http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/2007/2400/ug_en.pdf, yes it is possible - not that it tells you how to do it though so read on.
Until you become familiar with the process just use one sheet of paper at a time in the printer.
As you know, in the scanner the top right of your document goes to the right hand front corner of the scan bed (the clear window), place the page on the scanner and scan.
Pick up the printed sheet of paper and flip it so the left hand side edge is now in your right hand and the right hand edge is now in your left hand and you are now looking at the blank side of the paper.
Insert the page back into the sheetfeeder.
Flip the page to copy in the scanner so the rearmost edge of the paper is now to the front of the scan bed and the front edge of the paper is now towards the rear (you should now be looking at the page you scanned previously).
Scan the page.
you should have now scanned both sides of one sheet of paper to another sheet of paper.
as your printer does not have a sheet feeder for the scanner you have to do the process manually. hope this helps.

How do I read barcodes from an Adobe PDF FILE?

<p>Reading a bar code in a portable document format (PDF) document is a simple procedure. Some newer phones come with smart barcode scanners, and you can scan the Internet to buy. A barcode is a series of lines of code that identifies a product. When you print the document with a single piece of technology, you can read a barcode in a PDF document. <br /> <p><br /> <p>1. Open the PDF document. Adobe Reader PDF reader is the most common. If you do not have Adobe, download the latest version of the company's website for free download (see Resources). <br /> <p><br /> <p>2. Select "File" drop-down box to the left of Adobe. Select "Print" and then "OK". <br /> <p><br /> <p>3. Set the bar code scanner. Jumping the gun and a horizontal red line is designed with the focus of the scanner. Move the line through the barcode printed on the document until the scanner beeps. Release the trigger and see the screen on the back of the scanner, which will give you the information encoded in bar code. <br /> <p><br /> <p>4. Download a barcode scanning application for your smart phone if you do not want a handheld scanner. Most bar code applications are free. Open the program and point the camera at the barcode in the PDF. Wait until the camera for a snapshot of the barcode will not make up the barcode in the light of the entire camera to take. The program will decode the barcode and display the results. <br />

ADF paper jam, when there is none

If you are receiving an Error Code 103 or a Paper Jam error, but there are no pages in the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), follow the steps below:
  1. Close the scanning application (such as PaperPort)
  2. Turn off the scanner and the computer
  3. If you have a combination ADF with a Flatbed scanner, unplug the ADF cable from the base of the scanner
  4. Plug the ADF cable back in
  5. Turn on the scanner power
  6. Turn on the computer
  7. Try scanning again
For a Paper Jam or Error Code 103, make sure that the ADF cable in the rear is connected to the scanner base. Check the flatbed to make sure that it is clear. A page incorrectly placed on the flatbed may interfere with a page feeding through the ADF.

If your scanner stops scanning due to a paper jam in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), a warning dialog box appears after a few moments.

To clear a paper jam:
  1. Open the Automatic Document Feeder cover.
  2. Remove the jammed paper and close the cover.
If you are receiving a paper jam error, or if the scanner is running continuously, check to make sure the paper sensor arm is not stuck down.
  1. Open the Automatic Document Feeder cover.
  2. Look for the small black plastic arm
  3. When you press on this arm, it should move freely up and down
  4. If the arm is stuck down, please contact Technical Support for troubleshooting options
  5. Close the ADF cover.

Scanner not responsive. You can choose to have the document scanned to your PC but nothing happens and either location.

Hi, we need to check first if this issue is caused by the scanner it self or by the scanner driver. Please try the following to check if your scanner is physically functioning or not:

Basic Copying
1. Open the scanner lid.
2. Place your document face-down on the glass. Move your document about 0.1 inch from the top and side edge so your entire document is scanned.
3. Close the scanner lid.
4. Be sure the COPY button is lit. The default copy settings are displayed on the control panel.
5. Press the Color Copy button (for color copies) or B&W Copy button (for black and white copies). Your document is scanned and then printed.
Note: Depending on the copy settings chosen, your copied image size may not be the exact same size as your original.
If the image was successfully copied please uninstall the scanner driverm download the latest driver in http://support.epson.com and install it. Try scanning.

If the issue still present we will need to ensure the scanner is being recognized correctly. Have you had any other scanners installed on the computer previously? We would suggest checking the DEVICE MANAGER for any conflicts.

Get to the Device Manager by:
1. Right-Clicking on MY COMPUTER
2. Left-click on PROPERTIES.
3. Click on the HARDWARE tab, then DEVICE MANAGER.
In the Device Manager please for the following:
1. Any yellow or red X's, question marks or exclamation marks.
2. Under the Category of Imaging Devices - Check for Epson Product name.
If IMAGING DEVICES is listed, test the scanner from PAINT.

To scan in paint:
1. Click on START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > PAINT.
2. Click on FROM SCANNER OR CAMERA.
3. Choose COLOR PHOTO.
4. Scan.

It is also possible your Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is not started.

To start this process please follow the steps listed bellow.
1. Click on Start, go to Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel window you will Performance and Maintenance, please left click that option.
3. Next we are looking for Administrative Tools, please left click on that option.
4. We are looking for the Services icon please left on that icon.
5. In the Services window we are going to scroll down to the bottom and look for the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service, Please Right click it with your right mouse button.
6. We want to select the STOP option with your left mouse button.
7. Next we want to Right click on the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service again and select the START option with your Left mouse button please.

How do I scan a bunch of originals from the tray and get 1 file for each page?

Loading originals to scan
Use these instructions to load originals into your device for scanning. For the best quality
scans, use the flatbed scanner. See Selecting media for the automatic document feeder
(ADF) for guidelines on choosing original documents for scanning.
Loading originals onto the flatbed scanner
1. Make sure that the automatic document feeder (ADF) input tray is free of media.
2. Lift the flatbed scanner lid.
3. Place the original document face-down on the flatbed scanner with the top, left corner of
the document at the lower-right corner of the glass.
4. Gently close the lid.
5. The document is ready to be scanned.
CAUTION To prevent damaging the device, do not allow the scanner lid to fall onto the flatbed scanner
surface. Always close the scanner lid when the device is not in use.
Loading originals into the automatic document feeder (ADF)
input tray
Note The ADF capacity is up to 50 sheets of 75 g/m2 (20 lb) media (depending on the thickness of
the media), or fewer sheets if the stack fills the ADF.
The minimum size for media in the ADF is 127 by 127 mm (5 by 5 inches). For smaller sizes
use the flatbed scanner. The maximum size for media in the ADF is 215.9 by 381 mm (8.5 by
15 inches).
1. Make sure that the flatbed scanner contains no media.
2. Close the flatbed scanner cover and put the top end of the stack of originals into the ADF
input tray, with the media stack face-up and the first page to be scanned on top of the
stack.
3. Slide the stack into the ADF input tray until it does not move any farther.

Changing the CIS scanner

First remove the scanner control panel. pry the hinges out slightly and you can take off the control panel, then there are 4 or 5 screws and the top comes off. The 2 long rollers come out too. move the clip and slide them to the right. The scanner is the 3/4 inch wide 8 inch long scanner. ( the glass that reads your faxes to send ) It is coonected with a flat cable. It pops up when you push the clips holding it down. Lawrence

"scanner failure"

see if you can access the internal workings of the scanner, and see if there is something blocking either the track the the light is moved by, or the rail that holds the whole thing together. Also see if there is something preventing the cables that are attached to the light from fully extending.
