Hi. I am using a wireless adapter with a desktop computer. This computer connects to a wireless router but the internet acces is through a laptop in this network that uses a mobile internet solution and...

It appears the wireless adapter is not working properly or is not configured with the wireless router's settings Ie. the SSID, and encryption etc.
First install the latest wireless adapter driver.
Next configure the wireless adapter with the wireless router's settings.
It needs to be the same as the wireless settings in the laptops.

Help wireless usb adapter connected to my computer but will not connect to the internet. i have got a wireless broadband box with sky it would be great if you could help me many thanks

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.
To access the Internet you need to connect the DSL or cable modem to the WAN (Internet) port on the wireless router

I lost my dlink d1514 installation cd, have dsl set up

You can download the driver for your adapter from D-Link's support page here.
There are 5 different versions, so make sure you get the correct one.

You can then either burn that file on a CD or copy it on a USB stick - it is too big for a floppy though - and install it on your downstairs computer.

Of course you can carry the computer upstairs and connect it to the router via an Ethernet cable, but that would be my last resort.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Problem connecting to my network

What I would do is replace the wireless router with a 4 or 5 port switch to control computers (devices) downstairs. Or, if you need wireless access, purchase only an access point to cover downstairs.

This way the wire from upstairs goes directly into the access point and you have wireless access downstairs.

And yet another way would be to purchase Airlink 101 PowerEthernet boxes ($54.99 each) and use those to connect an access point anywhere in your home that has an outlet.

Get a signal on upstirs computer, but can't get on the internet

First , make sure that the cable from the Cable modem is in the Internet/WAN port on the router.

If you are using DSL, you have to put settibgs in the router with the help of your Internet provider.

Last, Check and see if your firewall is blocking the internet.

Can't find internet.

check the ip address on the wireless network connection icon, make sure that the ip address, make sure it is dhcp enable and is within the same range with the router may also change the channel on your router because the problem is may be with wireless interference, you may be using other wireless devices that are running within the same frequency as your router.(cordless phone, baby monitor talk, microwave ovens, even thick walls and large aquariums)
