Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook

2 Answers

Wireless Router I have an Acer Aspire 5100-5337 and a wireless router from Linksys. Although it would show that the notebook is connected to Linksys, when I go to use the internet, it does not connect. I am unable to get into the internet. Any suggestions?

I forgot to mention that I have 2 other laptops and those laptops (one Toshiba, the other MPC) do not have the wireless connection problem. This ACER does. It would take a long time to connect. Then would disconnect. It is very frustrating

Thanks for your help. It was shutting the adapter down to save power. I unchecked that.

However, I dont know where the "Wireless Network Connection Properties" is located. There was a "Network and Internet".

But it is working right now.

I will let you know if I get into problems with it.

Also, should I add more memory? Right now, it has 512 MB. Thanks again

Make sure that the wep password is correct. This is the most common reason for not connecting.
Please let me know how you make out.

check is to make sure you are NOT using "IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network."

You can find at setting under "Wireless Network Connection Properties" and then under "Authentication" tab of your network properties.

This particular authentication method is periodically logging you off the network and re-authenticating.

Check the adapter in device manager to make sure that windows is not shutting the adapter down to save power.

Cordless phones and wireless ethernet cards use overlapping frequencies. As a test, you can unplug the AC cords from all the cordless phones in the area and see if it helps.

Try going to the usb and the wireless adapter in device manager, properties. And make sure that the computer does not shut them off to save power.
Please let me know how you make out.

This really seems to be a prob specific to Acer models. I've owned 4 laptops and never had this prob until my first Acer. Only thing that seems to work is to restart in Safe Mode, run a self diag, and restart in Normal Mode. Works every time! Unfortch I have not found a permanent solution yet.

Try Hard Booting both your modem and router to reset the ip address. Unplug both from the back of the units. Then plug the modem in first and wait 3 minutes then plug in the router. Make sure your computer is off before you start. after restarting both the modem and router, turn on the computer
