    DarkNeogen...

Thanks for your advice! It was taken but still the printer works sporadically.... On starting up it may or may not print. If it does, it will print only one page and then freezes the system. Your suggestion has to be followed again and the spooler re-started, after which it will print again only one page. Any thoughts please?

    thanks & regards

    Louise

When it starts automatically, it will only print one page. Then it has to be started manually, after which it will again only print one page.

  • LTonkin Jan 28, 2008

Thanks for additional info! I have sent details of Plan A to the camp... Plan B will be too complicated (I don't even know what CMD means!) Will give you feedback once I receive a response from them

    Aha! now I know....

    many thanks

There might be a problem with Printer Spooling Service. If you are using Windows do the following:

1. Go to start.
2. Choose "Run" and type: services.msc.
3. Press the Enter/Return key on your keyboard.
4. A screen will pop up. Locate the "Print Spooler" service.
5. Doubleclick it, if it has stopped: click Start.
If it is already running, click, Stop, and then Start.
6. Try printing again.

Let me know if this helped you out, please rate.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen

I've been looking for this issue of yours. There might be a problem with the Printer Spooler Service.
    Here's what you can try.

    A. Clear the Spooler directory.
    1. Stop the Print Spooler Service.

    2. Go to your Windows\System32\Spool\Printers directory.

    3. Select everything and delete all.

    4. When done, start the service again.

If this doesn't help, here's the next step.

    B.
Replace the file the Printer Spooler runs from. Here's a link on how to do that. It's an official Microsoft article.

    The link:

    [Replacing Printer Spooler Service file]

The symptoms do not completely describe your situation but this helps you replace the service file. Note that this requires the Windows XP CD and some knowledge of CMD. '

I hope that this will help sort out your problem.

    Good luck!

    Greetings,

    DarkNeogen.

CMD is the Command Prompt in Windows. When you type cmd in the Run box at the Start menu at DOS box comes up. It allows you to use commands.

I hope any of them works.

    Greetings,

    DarkNeogen.

Printer spooler

Hi,
If you are receiving SPOOL.SVC or PRINT SPOOLER ERRORS when trying to uninstall/reinstall your printer, or when trying to print a document or access the printer properties, please follow the steps below.

The following are examples of some of the messages you may be receiving:

Spool.svc is not running. Make the service active and try again.
Printer Properties cannot be displayed. The print spooler service is not running.
Printer cannot be removed. The print spooler service is not running.
Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup.
(When clicking Add Printer) Operation could not be completed.

NOTE: Only these types of errors warrant the troubleshooting steps clearly defined below.

Resolution:

SPOOL.SVC is an operating system function which carries files through the operating system for printing. It must be STARTED (active) to be able to print or access any printer's functions. This file usually starts automatically with Windows, however operating system issues may cause it to become stopped. You cannot uninstall or reinstall a driver while this service is stopped.

Please try the following to start the service again:

1) Click on START, right click MY COMPUTER, left click MANAGE.
2) On the left column, double-left click SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS, then click SERVICES.
3) Locate and highlight the PRINT SPOOLER on the list of Services.
4) Click START THE SERVICE.

If errors occur and the service cannot be started, there is another issue within the operating system itself.

Scans stop at 99% and make the entire prog (all in one software)not responding as well as printer freezes between a double sides printing (after finishing the pages on one side)

You've tried to uninstall and reinstall the printer driver of your printer. But still no luck. The printer still won't print. Or it would say printing but it won't finish printing.

You can try these steps:

1.Check if the firewall is blocking any printer services

2.Check what port the printer is using (reenable the bi-directional support) and if it's on online mode

3.Disable all the firewalls

4.Uninstall the printer driver and software

5.Delete any items under the ff keys:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-2

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-3

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet001\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-2

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet001\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-3

Optional***
6.Delete any non default items under the ff keys:
Note: ONLY THE NON DEFAULT ITEMS SHOULD BE DELETED
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet001\Control\Print\Monitors
Default items are as follows:
AppleTalk Printing Devices
BJ Language Monitor
Local Port
PJL Language Monitor
Standard TCP/IP Port
USB Monitor
Windows NT FAx Monitor
*****
7.Delete any items under the ff keys:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet001\Control\Print\Printers

8.Completely remove drivers by doing the ff: (Option for comm failure because of the upgrade from xp to vista)
Ensure there are no documents in queue.

Disconnect printer’s USB cable.

Click the Start pearl, then click All programs, Printers, Dell xxx (where “xxx” is the printer model number) and then Uninstall. Complete the uninstall utility.

From the start search box type spool and press .

The spool folder located at c:\windows\system32\spool opens.

Rename c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32X86 to c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\backup.

Rename c:\windows\system32\spool\prtprocs\W32X86 to c:\windows\system32\spool\prtprocs\backup.

9.Restart the computer.

10.Check th services status

Start-Run- Type Services.msc and Click on Open

You will see long list of services

You need to make sure following 4 Services are set to Automatically start

Remote Procedure Call RPC
Remote Procedure Call RPC Locater
LexBce Server
Print Spooler

11.Reinstall the latest printer driver

good luck :)

I have canon BJC 1000 printer how can i use it with laptop

No . Each piece of hardware requires a driver for the Win OS that is compatable. This printer was manufactured to run with 8 different systems if you include Mac.The only way to use it is to either downgrade to win Xp or the force Canon to provide a driver for you model for VIsta. I do nbot see that they wouldl be inclined to do that for a out of date product.
