Brand new electric dryer suddenly does not dry well

I have been using my new Whirlpool electric Dryer for only 2 months. All of a sudden it does not dry my clothes well. Clothes are very damp even after over an hour in the machine. There is no lint buildup that I can see and no kinks in the venting going from the machine into the wall. There seems to be good air flow out of the bottom vent on the machine, and the machine does produce heat. I don't know if this is related, but the lint trap on the top of the dryer seems to be catching lint only on the lower edge, not along its entire length.

My dryer does the same thing.

sounds like your dryer's exhaust needs to be cleaned as it is full of lint - the part that connects from the dryer to the wall and also inside of the wall. For Inside of the wall I usually take a fish tape .

also.... i would look at returning the dryer if it is not trapping the lint. i would return mine but it's out of warranty...

there is a cycling thermostat in line with the high limit thermostat and timer circuit,on timed dry its disabled and the timer will run no matter what,on any sensor dry setting it uses the heat of the element to heat this cycling thermostat to move the timer as the clothes get drier as the heating element heats the timer doesn't move, when the heater cycles off from the high limit thermostat then timer moves again, you need to find out if its a bad heating element, thermal fuse or possibly even a circuit breaker in the homes electrical panel tripped out on one of the 2 phases that gives you the 240 volts required to operate the dryer element, the breaker may not show its tripped,so shut it off and back on and try this first

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

You have 2 problems.
1. a blown thermal fuse on the exhaust duct. It is white in color. About 1 and 1/2 inches long by 1/2 inch wide.It is on the back of the dryer. Unplug the dryer and remove the back panel.
2. Your exhaust system is blocked or clogged with lint. You must find and clear the blockage or you will blow the new fuse.

Whirlpool dryer wont turn on

Hi Joe,
Your thermal fuse has blown. It's a cheap little part, here it is.

To get to it, Pull the dryer out and unplug it. Remove the rear panel. As you're viewing the dryer from the rear, look just to the left of the dryer exhaust... you'll see it there. It has 2 blue wire connected to it.

Remove the wires, remove the old fuse, install the new one, install the wires and replace the back panel.

There ya go! FixYa! Please take a moment to rate this as "solved".
