I am having problems with router when i connect ihave low signal and when i try to connect with another connection it says it is aquiring signal and it takes long

You could try Getright software, but most likely you are having connection problems (low bandwidth or high error rates). Problem is not likely in the router unless your wireless signal strength is very low.

Hi I have my desktop connected fine through the yellow cable, but need to know if I can connect my laptop wirelessly? if so how. sorry if question sounds silly but new beginner!


From ur laptop click "Start" then "Connect to" then "wireless network connection" then "view wireless networks" Your signal is probably the strongest one. Double click on it and it should aquire the network address automatically. Your in business!

How many DHCP devices are there on the network?
There should be only one. Try disabling the DHCP in your device, then your neighbours router should issue IP addresses and all will be ok.

Problems connecting remote net connection.


It sounds as if your signal strength is too low for the laptop to make a solid connection with the router. The further away you get from the router, the lower the signal gets. Any problems connecting to other access points? Places with free wi-fi like some fast food restaurants, books stores, etc? You may need to get a new router with a stronger signal strength.

Windows xp wont connect to internet


Please check you LAN settings on your router (DNS) - usually it is 0.0.0.0 (assigned by provider)
Make sure your PC is using DHCP (TCP/IP properties -> Obtain IP Address Automatically & Obtain DNS server address automatically). Try "ipconfig /all" at others computers and compare with your PC (look at gateway & DNS). See if you can ping gateway and then outside address.

p.s. To access your router open Internet Explorer and enter http://192.168.0.1/
If it is not working, check the default gateway address on working computer and use it instead.

Finding a local area connection


Is this a wireless connection?
If yes than most of the times the problem is that the signal is weak, try to put your Router/AP to a better place and see if you can connect, netstumbler can give you a hand in this, not sure if it's working under vista or not, but under xp it's perfect. My experience ist that what you need to have at least is 15 For SNR for your Router from the place where you are trying to connect. If it goes under 10 it will drop you down.
Better SNR means stronger signal and that's all that matters with a simple wireless connection.

Have you tried connecting the laptop in a different wireless network? Try changing the channel in your router and you may also upgrade the firmware of your router.

check the cables. the cable coming from the modem should be connected to the internet port of the router.
power cycle. turn off all the devices then turn on the modem first. wait for the modem to boot up before turning on the router and the computers.
if you are using a wireless computer, make sure that you are connected to the signal coming from your router. customize (change ssid, wireless channel) your wireless settings if still set to default and try to connect again

Wireless configure laptop


You may be getting a little mixed up; the SSID is the dispayable name of the router over a network and the code you may be refering to is the WEP or passkey for security. First go into your routers settings and ensure that the DHCP is enabled to automatically give the laptop an IP address. Check your laptop wireless adapter/reciever is set in the properties to obtain IP adress automatically. Turn off any encryption you have running on the router and restart both router and laptop. When laptop boots it should again find all the wireless networks in you locality, then click on your network and click connect. If all works fine go into router again and then set up security key and note whether it is an 'open' or 'shared' network access as you may need to input this into your laptop if it is unable to reconnect after the restart. Also if your wifi signal is relatively low, it will not allow a connection to the internet as it is unable to send data at a low signal rate. If you originally ran the router via an RJ45 network cable, you may need to clear the dns from your laptop, click Start>Run, then type ipconfig /flushdns and restart your laptop to give it a new ip address and dns address.
