Question about Toshiba Satellite A65-S1062 Notebook

1 Answer

TEAC DW-224E-B [CD-ROM drive]

It shows in Device Manager, My Computer. It opens and closes correctly.

It shows Fail when I run the Toshiba Diagnostics.

Basically it won't read any dvd/cd/cdr. Recent problem that occurred without any added drivers. I have uninstalled, reinstalled. There are no updated drivers available (Windows has the best one).

Any suggestions?

OS: XP SP2

Thanks Tango. I really don't have another cd player to put in it.

The diagnostic really didn't give me any other message except for fail. Terrible huh?

I'm thinking I may have to get a new one because the device does everything except for read the disc. It recognizes the difference between a disc being in it or not as indicated when by the lights when one is inserted and the tray is closed.

If empty the lights turn off. If it has a disc it blinks then just stays on. It doesn't even turn anymore. Boo hoo.

My Toshiba Satellite dvd drive recognizes that a disc has been put in it. It tries to read it, but then a message pops up after a long wait and says "Please insert disc" while the disc is still in there. I've tried a number of types of discs. I'm running Windows Vista which has had a number of issues... Now I can't seem to play any kind of disc at all.... ugg...

I had a previous issue with the drive where my laptop wouldn't recognize that there was a drive at all. From what I had found, it was caused from inserting some game that was like 5 years old. It was a while back, but if I remember correctly I had to erase and then add some codecs or something. I don't think it's the same issue as the laptop is still recognizing that there's a drive, but I felt it should be mentioned.

    I have a Satellite A215-S4757 PC Notebook

    Can anyone help? :o

Fail could mean a lot of things but those diagnostics (If I remember correctly) look at hardware. If you have a more concise message than just fail (I seem to remember they were) and it points at the cd/dvd first check the connection and if you happen to have an old cd player around try it...if it works and the other does not you have solved the problem. There is more to this but try this first .....FYI...if you were thinking of upgrading to a lightscribe or just wanted to have an extra CD ($10) it may be in your time interest to get one. Much more could mean anything from a bad cable to motherboard problem to....???? This is a start only....let me know....Tango

Completely dead, will not even try to read the disk. Device Manager says its working correctly, and the driver is correct.

Hello.

First try a disk drive cleaner.

If still a problem, the only solution is to replace the drive.

Hope this helps.

My cd rom is not reading any disc and i keep hearing a clicking sound.

Go to
1-my computer
2-then properties
3-then device manager
4-then look for your cd-rom
5-uninstall the driver (only if you have the cd-rom installation program from the manuf.) and restart your PC
If you don,t then find any conflicts in the device manager "like a yellow symbol" and if you find any try to "update driver".

Teac dw-224e-a dvd rom will not read dvd +r -rw data

Here's the newest driver for your burner. Go to Control Panel, then Device Manager, then click on the + symbol next to disk drives, and double click on the TEAC device. Click the Driver tab and press Update Driver, then choose the 'Let me find the driver' option, and navigate to the folder where you unzipped the file to. Double click and Install. Reboot.

For burning, I would recommend Nero, Alcohol 120% or ImgBurn.

Good luck and Season's Greetings!

TEAC DW-224E dvd/cd drive

first go to device manager : right click on my computer-properties-hardware- clcik on "device manager" look for a yellow hazard asterisk, this indicates a problem, if you right click on the device and select properties, you are presented with a troubleshoot facility also a means of updating your driver.....if this fails, go to google and type in the type/number of the device and you will be able to find free drivers to download.

The answer is what you profess. The drive can burn CD's, read CD's and also read DVD's. Everytime I try and burn a DVD I have an unrecognized drive and the properties always show no disk: The drive burns CD's ie;music, but cannot burn DVD it can only read DVD like you say!
