Question about Toshiba Satellite A65-S1062 Notebook
It shows in Device Manager, My Computer. It opens and closes correctly.
It shows Fail when I run the Toshiba Diagnostics.
Basically it won't read any dvd/cd/cdr. Recent problem that occurred without any added drivers. I have uninstalled, reinstalled. There are no updated drivers available (Windows has the best one).
OS: XP SP2
Fail could mean a lot of things but those diagnostics (If I remember correctly) look at hardware. If you have a more concise message than just fail (I seem to remember they were) and it points at the cd/dvd first check the connection and if you happen to have an old cd player around try it...if it works and the other does not you have solved the problem. There is more to this but try this first .....FYI...if you were thinking of upgrading to a lightscribe or just wanted to have an extra CD ($10) it may be in your time interest to get one. Much more could mean anything from a bad cable to motherboard problem to....???? This is a start only....let me know....Tango

Tips for a great answer:
Jan 23, 2013 | PC Laptops
Apr 23, 2012 | Toshiba PC Laptops
Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps
