Re: rancilio silva

Hmmm. It doesn't sound like a boiler problem. The heating element is controlled by a pressure or temperature switch. Either the switch is poorly connected or malfunctioning. Temp. switches are directly on the boiler with wires that go to a relay connected to the heating element. Pressure switches just have a tube connected to the boiler with wires to the relay.

Good luck!

Hi I have a Ranchilio Silva machine all of a sudden the water smells burnt and taste of coffee is yuk, any thoghts

  • Make sure your using filtered water
  • After you steam, turn of the steaming switch and hit the water switch and let it go until a steady stream of water comes out then switch it off, this refills the boiler
  • Try to descale it or backflush it, with Jo Glo or Full Circle.
good luck!

The light on my rancilio silva expresso machine does not go on and the machine does not warm up. Last night it was fine - this morning dead. It appears that either the switch has gone or something else is...

There is also a reset button inside on the front side of the boiler (you have to take the top of the machine off. There are 4 screws and remove the water tank). It is located between 2 black wires and is a red button. Push it in and test. There is also another problem that you might have. If the brew thermostat is bad it won't heat. To test for this, push the steam switch and wait 15 seconds. Then open the steam knob and push the middle button and see if the water is warm. If it is then you need a new brew thermostat. That is the thermostat that has the red dot on the top. It sets on top of the boiler next to the steam thermostat. If you take the top off, make sure that the machine is unplugged.
If none of these things work check the heating element with an ohms meter. The reading in the terminals should be from 12 to 16 ohms. If no reading the elements is bad and you have to replace the boiler.

Rancilio Silva, after working well for three years, does not heat water when powered on. Suspect heating element bad. But is there a step I can take prior to replacing elements. Also, where can I get...

Remove the 4 screws on the top panel. Make sure machine is not connected to power. Check the thermostats on the boiler, there should be 3 of them, push in on the small red pin in the middle of them one of them should click in. Now fill up your tank plug machine in and turn on.

The steamer on our raniciolo silva does not work: the top light does not go out and no steam comes out

More than likley its your steam thremostat. Replace it and you should be good to go. Its on top of the boiler and the one that doesn't have the red dot on it.

Rancilio Silvia: The steam works only for about 10 seconds

Remove the top panel and check the 3 thermostat on the machine one of them is not functioning properly, find the wire to the steam switch and trace it to the thermostat.

5 year old Rancilio Silva with no heating of water

Do an ohms check on the element. With an ohms meter check the reading between the elements. The reading should be between 12 and 16 ohms for a 110v machine and 50 to 60 for a 220v machine. If you have no reading or a higher reading you have a bad element.

My Rancilio Silva is not making the water or steam hot anymore. Is it fairly easy to replace the heating element?

New Rancilio Silva - steamed milk not perfect

please relay on your experience realizing that you now have new steam pipe(with different holes in the end of it and different pressure)
you will need to get use to them and get maximum quality of that steam pipe.
my advice:
  1. every time hold your hand in the bottom of milk container, so that you will prevent overheating which often gives the result you mentioned.
  2. every time you use cold milk.
