Re: does not load Win98se

Windows 2000 is in NT format system, you have to reformat the drive to FAT 32 in order to install Windows 98.

Win 98 in dos mode i get this message " no cd rom or msdex.exe is not loaded " when trying to acces game disk in cd rom

1) Does it say MSDEX.EXE or MSCDEX.EXE?

2) Have you ever used that CD successfully on that computer before? (DVD's don't work well in MS-DOS).

3) Verify its trying to run from the correct drive. D:, E:, etc...

That aside, I'd recommend a glance at the following support page. It sounds like your driver isn't supported or your game is referring to a specific drive that doesn't exist.

(make a back-up copy your autoexec.bat, and rename it autoexec.bat.orig just in case)
Get an older compatible driver for your CD-Rom that is windows 98 compatible, so something around the year 2000 is probably ideal.
Uninstall your current driver and reboot. Scan for Hardware changes and install the new drivers for your CD-ROM. Then check your config.sys and verify the driver. If its not correct, open the autoexec.bat in an editor. in the portion of the autoexec.bat that has MSCDEX..exe program you'll put in the following. (replace DRIVERNAME with the driver name, typically MSCD001)

Save, reboot. Let me know how it goes!

I used active kill to format my hard disk and now when i want to install a windows it doesnot show. what should i do???

I ran into this same problem when I used a program call "diskkill". I did not know that I changed the format of the drive using this program to wipe a virus off it. So how to fix it go to and download the win98 boot disk .iso or a image create a bootable cd rom disk to reformat the corrupted drive. Have the system boot to the cd rom drive. have it boot to no ram drive. When the drive letter to the cdrom pops up, type fdisk hit enter. You are given 4 choices. press 1 enter. 3 enter it will verify drive, reboot using win 98 cdrom again no ram drive. at cdrom drive letter type format c: /s hit enter. That should will format your drive to be a fat 32bit. Reboot put your Windows disk in and let the system reformat the drive to NTFS or leave it at 32 bit, the limitation to a DOS format are 32gb.

I have an old laptop that partition and hd have been reformatted. I've tried using boot disk but keep getting the message that says, ''save to disk partition not found. So, can't get win98se to load as...

Haven't used win98 for a while so bear with me and this uses DOS COMMANDS too.
If useing restore cd/floppy you have to use a utility from compaq that creates two partitions on hard-drive.
They may have a restore floppy if you need it too.
One for "recovery files" and one for "OS Boot"
AHH, the memories, I still have my 95/98/ME Laptops up and running for older stuff. HP n CQ too.
Restore CD should do it all though.
If no restore CD - have Win98 CD?
if Harddrive partitioned and formated - Just do 1
1. boot from Win98 CD.
Partition n Format
2. Choose boot to DOS (puts u in virtual drive A)
3. Type drive letter of CD ( C: D: or E: )
4. Type CD Win98
5. Type Fdisk ( to partion drive)
reboot n do 1 + 2
6. Type format C: ( I do this to ckeck drive for errors)
JUST Boot from CD and follow install instructions.
1 to 6 for if you have problem with Win98 CD setting up Harddrive.

Laptop wont wont load past the very first boot screen where it asks you to hit f12 for boot menu and f2 for system utilities it have the windows vista there a problem with the hard drive?...

Windows is corrupt...reload Win OS....if possible re-install Windows in a different partition say D: or E: etc (if u have more than 1 partition) and then once done let it boot from that and let Win load....take a full backup of all of your critical data to a USB pen drive....then reload Win CD in the Cd drive, switch off and switch on PC let it boot from CD and delete all partition on HD, format the disk fully and repartition the disk and load Win in C:
pls leave a feedback

Stuck in Boot up MS Dos Mode

Win 98 is the cd that most vendors use to format your harddrive if you are having problems it could be the cd is curpt and needs to be replaced .this mite resolve your problem . at start up of your computer press F8 and a startup menu will apper press last good know and it will restat the computer before any problems started ,but if your harddrive has crashed you will have to reformat the drive because all your info is lost .most restore disk are just for lost operating system and you willnot recover any of your files or programs .soo i recomend safe mode at startup .but you can only use last good known one time after that it will erase all info. Good luck

Want to remove Win Vista and install Win XP on two computers

have or can you get a win 95/98 disk...
these disks utilize the dos enviroment...
when you boot with them you can easily get in the dos platform (c://prompt)
once there type in fdisk and follow instructions.
you can also do this from usb need to make usb bootable first.
you may be able to use xp disk and choose repair which will take you to the dos prompt.
you may be able to format hd with vista disk and before it start to install files interrupt it(remove disk)
not advisable though.
if you want program to create bootable usb let me know.
I'll need youre email address to send via attachment.
