Question about Mitsubishi VS-50703 50" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Mitsubishi VS-50703 Hi, Out Mitsubishi VS 50703 TV is not quite ten years old. We had to repalce with new ones, the red, green, and blue bulbs and one circuit board below the bulbs because the fluid was leaking out of two of the bulbs. Hence the tv was not working. However, after spending $400, the picture quality is poorer, not as sharp and is "grainy". Can the picture quality be improved or is this expected with these tv's (as I've been told)? Can this be fixed or is it time for a new TV? Thanks Peter ([email protected])

10 years..... i would say new TV... im suprised you even found parts for that. iv looked around ebay and google and have only found a service manual. I would say you could of spent a couple hundred more on a nice 37" LCD or another $400 and got a 42". I think if you get 10 years out of an electronic component then that was a good investment.. If you are still wanting to tinker with setting or something i could point you twords a service manual.

Replacement bulb for mitsubishi VS-60705 rear projection tv

The set does not use a bulb, it is a CRT type set which means it has instead 3 picture tubes, a red, green, and blue.

In order to try to help what is this set doing and not doing?

It might be the the socket board on this model not the crt tube. Closely look at each tube these tubes end up contaminated. They start looking like lemonade inside. Usually the blue and green, with the tv off see if the green and blue are as clear as the red with a flashlight. You might want to call a service center. Cheaper in the long run over the cost of a tube.

A halo effect usually means the coolant in the CRTs need replacing in the effected color usually blue goes first followed by green. red seems to be less prone for some reason.

Your problem most likely is on the signal board is my guess. If your not a technician it would be in your best interest to have him check L2C60 on the signal board.

Green "halo" around the bright white images

I have a Samsung HCM5535W rear projection TV that had pretty much the exact same problem-- a green halo around bright white images. I researched it on the net, and determined the most likely problem was with the convergence STK-ICs, or the convergence board. I bought a replacement board with the STK ICs and installed it, but no luck, the problem persisted. I decided to mess with the manual focus adjustment on the green crt (i was seeing a green halo), and that fixed it. As it turns out, no replacement parts were necessary to fix the problem in the first place. Hope this helps somebody out there.

That model is famous for the CRts leaking onto the chassis which causes all kinds of problems and can cause the main circuit board to short as well as destroy the solder. Try looking at the board for evidence of a pastey substance that would indicate CRT coolant leakage. Let me know what you find.
