    reply back anyway?

  • Marty marty May 11, 2010

    ok, this changes lots...
now it seems like an electrical problem. hope you have some electrical knowledge, but here it goes:
1.) attempt to spin the pump motor with external power cord and fused supply (no power to any other part of unit!) if it turns, then stop
2.) repeat 1.) on the fan...if it turns, stop
3.) repeat both 1 & 2) together and continue until whitish smoke (air/kero mix) appears. you have now primed the pump...agitate (shake vigorously) entire unit if necessary.
4.) if 1,2,3 ok, retry unit as designed.
5.) if 1,2,3 failed, reply back
6.) if 4), but no light, reply back

  • Marty marty May 11, 2010

sounds like no fuel being pumped...can you smell kero or see whitish smoke (air/kero mix)? possible pump needs priming since sitting too long on store floor?

When you turn the knob you dont smell gas, don't here the click of the igniter, but would like to light the oven manually. Can you help me please.

you can't manually light the oven with a match anymore, you have an electronic ignition in the oven or an ignitor part number 5303935066 and it's around 60 have to remove the racks, remove the floor of the oven and then remove the cover and you'll see the ignitor in the back screwed to the tube usually with two 5/16 inch screws. set the oven to bake on 350,if the ignitor glows but doesn't light in 40 seconds it's bad,if it doesn't light at all you can unplug the ignitor and check it with a meter for continuity but most likely you have a bad ignitor.wet a paper towel and wet the two screws, they will come out easier, you can't use wd or anything like that because it will smell when you turn the oven on so use water, if you can see where the disconnect is to unplug the ignitor unplug it or when you get the screws out cut the two wires close to the ignitor, the new ignitor comes with ceramic wire nuts so you can connect the two wires you just cut to the new ignitor, the wires on the new ignitor will be long, you can screw the new ignitor on,leave around 6 inches of wire on the new ignitor so the wire connectors will be away from the tube and not up near the floor and if you have the ignitor screwed on you can see how long to make the wires, cut the wires and strip the ends on the old and new wires and wire nut them together.then turn it on to bake, when the ignitor starts to glow it sholud lite the flame in less than 40 seconds.hope this helps you more thing don't touch the piece of the ignitor that's inside the metal bracket, they break very easy.good luck and have a great holiday.

My oven is not working The Broiler works and the stove top works fine but the oven will not heat and when you turn it on no gas comes out I tried turning it on and using a lighter but nothing happens

You gave us good clues in information!-- Thanks!

Most modern gas ovens have a device called a Glow Ignitor to light the burner.
If this ignitor has filed, it will NOT left the gas valve open-- (Good thing, right? :-) )

You say the broiler lights fine-- so let's observe something when the Broiler lights:
Do you see a bright glow near the Broiler burner?
(Usually toward the top rear of the oven--)

Well, you should see a similar bright glowing near the BOTTOM rear of your oven, for the main burner to light off-- If you do NOT see this glowing-- then you need a new ignitor-

You can remove the bottom burner cover, and dig deeper into the repair if you like-
But a new ignitor needs to be exactly like the failed one-- the safety circuit is very fussy about the exact same ignitor-- or it will not allow lighting-- even with a new 'generic' installed.

How deep do you want to go into this repair?-- Maybe it is time to call the service people into do the job?-- You can tell them that you think the ignitor needs replacing-- and approx. what will they charge you for the service call and the ignitor?

I hope this helped.

Kenmore oven about 8ys old. The top works fine. When i turn the oven on the glow from the pilot light is visble. then nothing except strong smell of gas. Help. thanks Michelle

The glowbar ignitor has gotten too weak to light the gas.
Replace the ignitor.
Unplug the range.
Turn off the gas ****.
Remove the oven racks.
Remove the bottom oven pan.
Remove the flame spreader grate.
Remove the ignitor and replace it.
Make sure the new ignitor is wired correctly.

Our glow bar lights up when gas oven is turned on, then the gas comes out, but it takes a long time to lite the gas resulting in an explosion inside the oven. Or with too much gas filling up the kitchen....

Typically the issue here is a weak glow bar (hot surface ignitor). When they weaken they open the gas valve slowly and it takes a bit for the ignitor to light up the oven burner.

It is a safe bet that you need to replace it.

Dryer works bu not lighting the furnace. What do u think?

Two things come to mind when this happens. The duct work is totally plugged up or the spark ignitor is out of order.
Check the vent tubing by completely disconnecting it and cleaqn thoroughly clean. I see one once I took apart and filled a 15 gallong trash bag full of lint. The dyer was three years old and had a 10 foot vent tube. 4 feet of tubing is always recomended at the longest length used. If longer it needs to be cleaned evey few months for 100% efficiency
If the tubing is clean turn on the dryer and listen for the click the sopark ignitor makes to light up the burner. If no click is heard the ignitor is bad

Problem with getting burner to light.

All my ignitors spark when I turn one of them on. I'v been told it is normal. I had a problem before and the tech that replace the ignitor said the issues is with alignment. Try to rotate the burner a bit left or right and see if it fixes it.

Re:Whirlpool SF310PKE gas range

When the oven safety valve refuses to open and let gas through, it's almost always because not enough current is flowing through the ignitor. Often an aging ignitor will appear to be glowing pretty brightly but still won't draw enough current to make the valve open. The first thing to try replacing is the ignitor.

You describe your ignitor as "red and glowing" but oven ignitors normally get a lot brighter than "red" -- well into what I'd call yellow.
