Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My electric dryer was making chirping noise, dried the clothes inside it but the drum would not rotate for the next load. I took the top off. it looks like the belt has wandered to the middle of the drum, but I can't seem to get into the bottom of the machine to make sure the pulleys are all okay and aligned. what should I do?

Flip it on its back and see if you can get to it from there. If not, then you have to remove the back cover, which is very tedious with some dryers.

My Maytag Performa electric dryer heats and tumbles, but the clothes take multiple cycles to dry, and water is pooling next to the left front foot. We cleaned the vent, replaced the vent hose, and opened...

two things come to mind; 1. although drum is rotating perhaps it is slipping under load. Change drum belt, and, 2. perhaps the problem isn't in the dryer, it could be that your washer is not spinning out properly leaving an inordinate amount of water in your clothes which would tax the performance of the dryer. Just a thought. good luck!

My beko condenser tumble dryer is drying fine but is making a loud scraping noise. When I took out the clothes there was a strip of white felt in the washing

Looks daunting to start with but just done mine,
remove top and all rear covers and rear panel after removing drum split washer, pump hoses, belt and elec connection, remove the drum and you will see where the felt seal goes. i had some felt i cut to 12mm wide and siliconed it in place, left to dry for 6 hrs, now runs fine.

Affinity dryer less than 2 yrs. old will not turn. It hums, but the drum will not turn.

Please check if there's something stuck outside the rotating drum. Sometimes small cloth escapes out of the drum during drying and gets stuck in the rotating shaft. Just try to reach the back side fo the rotating drum inside and make sure that there's no cloth that's stucked inside. Please make sure that you unplug the cord first.
If in case that you did not find anything, you may have a busted capacitor or worse, the motor is defective. It could be that the motor windings are shorted or a bad bushing.
Hope this helps.

My dryer makes a groaning noise on each rotation ... especially the load is very light. I manually turn the drum clock-wise and it seems to help for while. If we add more clothing to the load it also help....

The belt that rotes the drum has a belt tensioner that keeps the belt tightly fitted on the drum. You may have a dried up belt or a dried up bearing in the roller for the belt tensioner. An inspection can be done by removing the top and front panel of your dryer to see

Electric dryer makes a rumbling when tumbler is turning.

Check the drum bearing, a load noise, and often spinning problems are symptoms of a bad drum bearing. The bearing is at the base of the drum and accessing it is not easy.

You can find diagrams and replacement parts entering model number here.

G. E. Electric Dryer - on drying rotation making noise

Drum bearing is worn out and needs replacing. There is an axle on the drum that goes into this bearing. I cannot see your repyl due to some tech issue w/ the site, so it may be a day or so before I can reply again. Please leave feedback for me if appropriate. Thanks

Clothes not drying

A couple of possibilities to check. First, is the lint trap empty? If so, then the symptoms point to hot air bypassing the drum. Look for broken or misaligned plastic ducting inside the dryer itself. Check the exhaust air for moisture, as that is a better indicator than temperature. Don't forget that towels hold an enormous amount of water, & can be extremely long in drying, especially if not spun enough.
