Question about Canon PIXMA MP130 All-In-One InkJet Printer
How can i get rid of this service error i have no resume button on this printer?
When this happened to me, I beat my head against the wall until I
finally figured out that the waste ink absorber on the right side
(spongy looking thing), was overflowing, and clogging the nozzles. I
took a piece of paper towel and absorbed some of the ink. Make sure to
wipe the colored ink absorber as well.

I wanted people to know that you MAY get this error when all you need is a new ink cartridge.
Such was the case with mine.
I got the error, read all the solutions here and other places and they either required opening up my printer and fiddling with its innards, which I was not going to do, or they made it sound as if it was dead.
I tried cleaning that plastic ribbon, and I unplugged it and restarted it several times, and these things did seem to help get it responding again. Before it would do NOTHING, just give me the error message.
After 4 -5 starts and restarts, it began to at least TRY To print but there was no ink showing up, just a faint bit of ink you could barely read at the bottom of the page.
At that point I said "Hmmm, maybe it just needs a new cartridge. Maybe the cartridge is not fitting right and that is the problem."
"But do I want to spend $30 on new cartridges only to find out that is not the problem?" The answer was no.
As a compromise I went out and bought JUST the black ink cartridge.
When I tried to install it, it did not seem to fit. Almost as if it was the wrong cartridge. Weird. I looked in there and could see nothing obstructing it, so I kept trying to get the new cartridge to fit. Finally it did snap into place, and....
That solved my problem! (at least for now) I will add to this if this turns out not to be a permanent solution. Otherwise you can assume it did fix the problem permanently.
I am not saying that Error 5100 is always a sign of just needing a new cartridge. But it might be worth a try to buy a black ink cartridge and try it, if all else fails. Remember, that first you have to at least get the printer to act like it will print. For me, starting and restarting it (also unplugging both the a.c. and the USB) and cleaning that plastic ribbon inside got it acting like it wanted to print again. Then the new cartridge finished the job.

Ok, I have had this code twice. First time I unplugged both power and computer connection for over 30 seconds and the error message cleared upon reconnection. Months later it happened again.
The second time was when I was trying to print with the colour when it was saying only black needed replacing. It turned out that colour had an incorrect reading and also needed replacing. So maybe try replacing ink cartridge, or shaking cartridge.

I had the same problem. For me, it wasn't required to switch ink tanks. I just had to take out the USB & power cables, wait for a few minutes, put them back in and it started working again, fortunately.

5100 is service error. just follow this steps to fix this,
1. Hold RESUME then press & hold POWER
2. Release RESUME, then press it twice, the light should go amber then green again.
3. you're now in service mode (you can release POWER now)
for reset waste tank reset is 4 presses of the RESUME button. To confirm, press POWER once.
