Question about Protron PD-800 DVD Player
PROTRON PD 800
Runs and then will stop periodically freezing. The screen
digitizes for a few moments then resumes playing. I have had
this DVD over a year but, just finally hooked it up! It does not
I would wager this is a 'dirty lens' problem.
Try cleaning the lens (remove the cover, and swab at it with a DRY cotton-swab (Q-Tip) and/or hit the lens with some compressed air. (I don't recommend 'cleaning discs' -- take the time to carefully clean the lens manually it generally works better, and if you don't know how to locate the lens, call someone who can help rather than blindly poking around....)
If that doesn't work, you've got a software / hardware issue in the D/A (digital to analog) converter or the region encoding detector (if it has sat unused for a long time, that may also be what is going on here....). Try playing a 'region free' disk to see if the problem persists. If so, try powering off (and unplugging the device) for 24-48 hours, and see if that doesn't fix it. Absent that, you are talking replacing parts which at the cost of this unit makes no sense.
Good luck! //Cheapz
