Hard Drive failure?

When i was on something, the windows suddenly hanged and beep sound came out. I had to switch it off and try again. But this time, i can't even get into the windows screen. Even booting with CD won't work (it will restart once it checks my hard drive)... guess my HD's failed? or i need to unscrew the HDD and try to fit it back in?

Re: Hard Drive failure?

Try the HD on another Labtop with a IDLE Kit, or take of the HD and Boot, if the laptop tells you the HD is missing its ok, also check your memory and your BIOS setting, It could be your HD or your HD, Just do some testing before any future decision.

Try going to BIOS Setting, check if the drive is detected there. If it is, then change the Setting of your hard drive then try again. Are you trying to reformat your drive? If need more help about entering BIOS just post it here..

My daughters c300 gets smart failture predicted says f1 screen goes blank please help

Hmm, I hope for you that my hunch turns out to be wrong. That S.M.A.R.T failure is related to the laptop's hard disk drive. And the failure is not just predicted to happen soon; it sounds like it is happening. Something is wrong with the hard drive, and that something is unlikely to go away.
When this appears, you should press the F1 key and hope Windows starts. If it does, do something ASAP to save any important documents your daughter might have on the computer. You might take it to a neighbor, friend, relative, or shop you trust and have them transfer those documents to, say, a USB key for temporary safekeeping. Then it's time to replace the hard drive inside with a new one (no, they're not extremely expensive), re-install Windows and other programs, and then transfer the documents back onto the PC.
If the laptop just stops working after pressing F1, it's perhaps too late. A more experienced PC technician can see if he/she can save those aforementioned documents or data from the misbehaving drive. Or if you daughter says, "Nah, there was nothing on there I need to recover," then you can skip straight to replacing the hard drive (and reinstalling everything).

Good luck!

Hi! I have a laptop samsung r70, in which I have recently re-installed Windows Vista. Suddenly the computer started making a weird noise just before the system collapsed. Now Im trying to re.install...

I would suggest that it is most definitely a hard ware failure most likely your hard disk drive failed do to the fact that it only makes the sound when you try to access it. All you need to do is go purchase another HDD install it and then just reinstall windows. HDD's are fairly cheep now a days and you can pick one up for 20 or 30 dollars. also attached i place a link to directions on how to change out your HDD.

I hope this helped.

Thank you,

No Windows of any kind

I was going to write some troubleshooting steps for you when I found this, and figured why re-do something that has already been done quite well.
I son't think I could have written that answer better. From you description of the troubleshooting, I'm confident this issue is not software related. So the failure is in one of the following:
  1. RAM. I am not a big fan of memory diagnostics as the best memory test I have ever found is the Windows XP install. If the system has 2 memory modules, try them one at a time, see if anything changes.
  2. Hard drive is next one the list, only because it is cheaper than the motherboard to replace. The drive could be having cache or other on drive memory issues.
  3. Motherboard, this is my most likely failure point from what you have described. Either the video card or the motherboard chipset seem to be failing (Maybe overheating) Use canned compressed air to blow out the air intakes and exhausts and ensure the cooling fan actually runs. Reset BIOS Defaults, flash to most current BIOS version are two other MB troubleshooting steps short of replacing it.

Switch on computer and all i get is a beep that last for about 30 secs then stops and beeps again for about 30 secs, keeps repeating, computer doesn't startup

This indicates a hardware failure. Switch off, remove sidepanel. Check ALL cards and cables are secure. If you know how to check the cmos in setup, do so and make sure ALL your drives are listed (Hard drives, CD's/DVD's, etc)

While opening the laptop, once the windows xp with the blue screen appear, it suddenly went pitch black, then a beeping sound went on, what should i do?

In computer terms we call that the blue screen of death. Your hard drive or your operating system has failed. I would first try to reinstall the OS and if you are having problems then you need to reoplace the hard drive. The beeping noise is probably because the BIOS is not detecting something? Could be the hard drive. That is why your OS is not working. Hope this helps, Darren

Hello! I've got a LG LW40 Express Laptop. Whenever I turn it on, a black screen apologizing for inconvenience is what I see. It says that Windows didn't start successfully because of a software or hardware...

Take the hard driver out & put it back in, push it in nice & *** so that the pins go all the way in.
start it up & go into the BIOS witch should either F2,F8,Esc or Del.if you can't see the bios option
at the start it will appear as F8 or something like that in the list you keep getting.
Or just keep tapping F2 when you first switch it on.
In the BIOS go to exit then select LOAD SYSTEM DEFAULTS hit enter then go to the BOOT list & put them in this order if their not all ready done.......
it tells you how to change the values @ the bottom of the screen.
Go back to EXIT & make sure you SAVE CHANGES & EXIT.
It will reboot then select start windows normally.......JOBS A GOOD ONE!
if not bell me on my land line it's free land line to land line with BT & we'll try something else........GOOD LUCK.

The system hang during winxp install

If its hanging during install you need to turn virus protection off in the bios. Have a root around in the bios and you'll see it sooner or later, If you need further help just shout.

Can't get laptop to switch on

The crash sounds more like a hard drive failure, or maybe something was improperly written to the master boot record sector or another such important sector. I'd try to fix the MBR (google that: "Fix MBR windows xp") to see if everything is really gone or just hidden because the boot record (index) is lost.
