Re: mp3

I downloaded the latest firmware from the RCA website and re-flashed the Opal. No effect. Well... it no longer gives the "please reformat" error. Now it says "Please wait... Building database". Then the screen clears and displays "Hold!" then the screen clears once more and says "Shutting Down" and it shuts itself off.

When I plug it into my laptop (Win XP Pro; SP2) via USB port, it is recognized as an 8GB USB hard drive and the mass storage function works fine. I left it plugged in for 3 hours to fully charge the internal batteries... but when I unplug it from USB... it still starts up when the Play button is pressed, says to wait, that it is building the database, then it says Hold, then it shuts down again. I think the unit is fubar'd.

Re: mp3

Formatting the device will not solve the boot error you are getting..thats a firmware problem..get the firmware update and that should solve the problem you are having..

How do you format the ilo mp3 player

This is a common problem with these units. Try this:
To Format your player follow the following steps:
1. Open up your My Computer Icon to show your drives installed on
your computer and take note which ones are installed. Leave this window
2. Connect your ILO device and wait for the two additional
"removable disk drive"(s) to appear in your My Computer window (ex:
removable disk drive [E:], removable disk drive [F:])
3. Right click the first drive that appears (ex: [e:] if the
removable drives show as [e:] and [f:]) and select format
4. Click "start" on the format window
5. Disregard the warning notice that pops up
6. Once that is complete retransfer all of your music and then
your device should function properly.
There are a select few mp3 players that are having a few issues with
the internal flash memory and will not allow windows to format it. The
only solution to these units is to reinstall the firmware into the
player itself. To reinstall the firmware, please search your email
folders for the email I have sent you titled "ILO 116 Firmware".
Sometimes, your email security settings will move this email to your
junk mailbox. Once you open the file, read the instructions and click
on the attachments link to open the software.

Hope this was helpful, have a great day!

Take the battery out and put it back in after a few seconds, turn it on again and pray. If the same happens, plug it in with USB, take all your music onto your computer and make sure none is on the USB device and format it. Once formatted, try turning it on again, if it works, copy your music over and try again. If it does not work, it is likely faulty and should be returned.

when you hook it up to the puter, go into My computer right click on the removable drive then click on explore disc and see what oter types of files are taking up the extra memory as if there are none then the drive has bad memory cells.
