Question about Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera

2 Answers

Lens Error I tried turning on my camera and it sits for a second on the start up screen and then beeps at me and says "Lens error - restart camera." I haven't dropped the camera. I recently plugged it into a computer and correctly disconnected it from the computer. Any suggestions?

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried the battery option, but it didn't work. I will keep trying, but I think that it is a software problem. There were some other people online that had same problem and had to contact the vendor direct. I think that the Canon Powershot SD600 has a software defect... I never had this problem with Nikon, but at the same time I had 3 Nikon cameras in 5 years.

They really don't make digital cameras like the old SLR's

Manually rotating sensor rotor inside camera and cleaning gear fixed the Canon "lens error" for me.
I placed instructions with photo's here: http://www.avh.dds.nl/Fix-Canon-SD600-Lens-Error/

Remove battery for a minute or two then reinsert and try
If the problem persists recharge the battery fully
Then try if it still persists then there is a possible fault and you should return it to the vendor if under warranty ot contact Canon if out of warranty
Be warned if out of warranty your likely looking buying a new camera

Canon IXUS 100IS - 'Lens error, restart camera' message

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

It has a lens error. Everytime the camera is turned on it beeps and clicks constantly. It eventually shuts off after displaying "Lens error, restart camera." on the screen.

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:
