Am not familiar with the model but Compaq would be your best source...support and downloads....if not, and you will need to poke around.....there is an absolutely phenomenal free driver site in Russia that has (personal opinion) virtually every driver ever made in every version. All free. You can also try the add/remove hardware auto detect and point it to Microsoft...you might get lucky. The only other solution is to query the internet with your model number and the words driver behind it. Hope this helps....Tango.

Need the driver for a SMARTDISK model FDUSB-B2 external floppy disk drive unit for a old Gateway Windows 98 computer

Since it is a USB device, does Windows 98 automatically load the device-driver when it is connected? If not, connect to the Internet, and run Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) and let it scan for updates. When it completes, look at the "optional" updates -- there may be a device-driver that can be downloaded.

USB external floppy drive

In windows XP and later the USB mass communication driver are in built, so you can use these devices like USB Floppy drive, USB HDD, Memory card, flash memory etc...

But before windows XP Microsoft did not supply the driver for USB mass storage devices. So, in your case you have to install the Driver for your USB Floppy drive, then you can use this drive as Floppy drive but after complete boot of your Windows 95.

If any problem or more question Just Ask me

Thanks

Compaq External Floppy Drive

External, parallel port based FDD's are just too darn old and uncommon, and there's no auto-detecting on these things. These things also come with their own power supplies - so make sure the power supply is plugged in or else it ain't gonna get no power - and then you'll need the drivers (which I doubt will be XP compatible).

A USB based external FDD would be a much easier solution!
