I installed this unit in my Dell Optiplex 210L. I found that both the original cd and newly installed dvd did not work after thre installation. In the BIOS the Drives are as follow:
Drive 0= SATA 2, Controller= serial ATA, Port= SATA 0, Harddrive= 80GIG
Drive 1= SATA 2(off)
Drive 2= PATA 0, controller= Parallel ATA, Primary IDE Master (DVD)
Drive 3= PATA 1, controller= Parallel ATA, Primary IDE Slave (off)
The hard drive is set on "Cable Sellect".
The dvd drive is set on "Master"

Should be IDE cable...IDE interface according to the specs. You computer has IDE connections so the drive should work.
HP DVD1040i Lightscribe 20X DVD Burner/Black/Retail
Mfr Part #
Internal DVD ±R/±RW drive with DVD±R up to 20X, double-layer recording, DVD-RAM, and LightScribe direct disc labeling
the combo drive you listed above is a cd-rw/ DVD-ROM....meaning that it will play and burn cd, cd-r, and cd-rw disks. the dvd rom will only be able to play dvd-rom and dvd-r disks providing they are in the proper format. check that the disk in question is not a dvd-rw or (+2) disk. the drive will not recognize that a disk is in the drive if the disk isnt compatable. try a dvd movie, if that works then a dvd-r, if that works then try a dvd-rw +1. if the last option doesnt work then you will have to stick with the dvd-rom and dvd-r, or purchase a dvd-rw drive to install.
