Sony VAIO VGN-FS790 PC cd dvd optical drive

When I insert a CD in the optical drive I you can hear it starting to work. It takes a minute or less and it stops. I open My Computer icon and click on the drive (E) and nothing happens. It does not read its contents. If i click on Properties it tells me it's full but with 0 bytes. When I click Eject, it it ejects it. The same happens when I insert a DVD. But if I open a DVD Player like Power DVD or WinDVD it operates fully. (so it can't be the optical lens nor the drive nor the drive) So what could be the problem. I'd greatly appreciate if some one can help me. I've been breaking my head the last week over this problem and i'm getting nowhere. Thank you.

Re: Sony VAIO VGN-FS790 PC cd dvd optical drive

Have you try booting on your DVD/CD to see if it works correctly, if it does boot correclty with a bootable DVD/CD, then you prob. have a bug on your OS windows system. You can try backing your importante files and then delete partition and do a fresh install of your Windows OS system. XP or vista or what ever you are using...

How restar a vaio sony vgn-t370p

Laptops require specific drives, you can probably find one for cheap on eBay. To remove the optical drive, flip the laptop over and locate the screw with a CD icon next to it. It will typically be about 3-4" in from where the DVD drive is.

Sony Vaio Notebook's blu-Ray optical drive stops during DVD play

The laser is definitely weak on that drive, it takes alot of power to play blu-ray discs and if the laser may have been slightly defective to begin with then that can cause the drive to act funky the way it has been.

Whatever blu-ray drive you get doesn't matter as long as the shape of it is the same as the one you have now cause all you would have to do is change out the front door and the screw holder on the back of the drive, then because the shape of the drive is the same, you can move it back into its slot.

Your notebook is new enough to where any drive will work in it.
