Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

RV Microwave/Convection by Panosonic Model NN-8501V, touch controls go crazy when cold, indicating the AUTO DEF button is in continuous contact. CLEAR/STOP only works for a second and then AUTO DEF starts again, beeping continuously (I disconnect power cord at night to avoid be awakened by beeping). Use of a hair dryer to warm up the touch pad solves the problem until the outside exhaust allows cool air to reduce keypad temperature (I now keep the outside exhaust vent closed except when cooking). The unit was made Aug 1994) Can the touch pad be fixed (there is no obvious way to pull it off before taking the microwave out of the built-in cabinet in the RV)? Or must the touch pad be replaced? If yes, can I do it myself? (I am fairly handy with tools and even a soldering iron) Or is it easier/less expensive to replace the whole microwave (finding that model or a similar size model to fit the built in opening in the RV might be difficult though I am in Yuma AZ where thee are lots of RVers RV stores)? I joined FixYa and did get a reply from an earlier request that I was being contacted separately but no email or phone message has been received. My email is bspivy@yahoo.com, ph 509-280-9983(cell-ATT). Thanks in advance... a full time RVer, retired Army guy living on a pension so costs are critical... Bert

I tried looking up the part number for this model and they don't identify clearly what the touch pad is. Would have to get one of the parts companys (andrewselectronics.com) to do research on it.
I've done surgery on a few touch panels and it usually works out. Have to break through the plastic tabs holding it together, then you can clean the contacts. Then do something like find little tiny screws to fasten it back together.
Hope Ya Fix It!

My Panasonic Microwave Dimension 4 Convection is showing FFFF in the time display when I try to use it. What does this mean?

FFFF is not mentioned in the user manual, but there may be some helpful information or contact information in it.

This is not certain, but it may be a part that is expensive to replace according to this other web site for a similar model Panasonic oven. That person said their microwave was still working.

FFFF means that your display control board has an internal short. The only way to fix the problem is to replace the display control board which is no longer available. If you really wanted to fix the microwave you'd need to remove the display board and mail it to a place like Appliancetimers.com to have the part refurbished. The cost to have the part repaired is usually about $200-250 or so.

Panosonic Microwave convection Model NN-8501V Touchpad appears dead

The unit has a fuse in the power board, but when the fuse is gone it does not even start up. If it starts it is not the fuse.

Look rather a problem with a faulty touchpad, or the magnetron that is not working and need to be changed.

Check also the door sensor.

I would suggest that contact the dealer from whom you purchased the oven or call any number listed on the model tag of the oven.

NN 8501V Panasonic Dimension 4 Convection/Microwave oven keeps blowing fuse

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead several seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

I have the same problem with Panasonic NN-8501V Microwave Oven

I took the touch pad control unit apart, clean the connector for the ribbon wire connection between the key pad and the control unit, reseated the ribbon wire in the connection. Everything worked like new.

Instruction book required for High-Point microwave/convection

Here's a roundabout way to help you:

You can find a different High-Pointe RV microwave owner's manual here.

That manual should have contact info to help you get in touch with High-Pointe to get a new one, or it may be close enough to your model to work for you.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Microwave beeps for no reason. Panasonic NN-8501V

There may be an F type fault code on the display, or the display may reflect that a key has been pressed when it has not.

If you can supply more details along those lines, that can help in the diagnosis.

The rest of the answer assumes you have a failed keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can order Panasonic parts from Tritronics, but if you don't find what you're looking for there, try here.

Or you can find an authorized Panasonic servicer here.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
