I was using my laptop. It was plugged in and working fine. All the sudden the screen went black like it powered off ( but it was plugged in). Now it will not turn on at all. There is no lights showing or no sounds being made. Any suggestions?

If the battery is good, mine died after 4 years, check the settings in Power Options, look for dim when on battery power. Increase the % to Max or 100%. see what happens. Still have problem consider replacing Battery.
Black screen is often caused by a defective screen. The easiest way to determine if you have a hardware or software problem is by performing a power drain. Please follow the steps below for additional instructions.
Power Drain: 1. Turn off the computer.
2. Unplug the AC adapter from the power outlet and take out the battery from the system.
3. Now, press the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
4. Put back the battery in and plug the AC adapter.
5. Turn on the system and try observing it. --> If power drain did not work, you need to consult a repairman to have your screen be checked for possible damage.
See if you can go into safe mode by hitting the F8 key right after the dell splash screen and right before the XP splash screen comes up. If you can get into safe mode try to uninstall the rangeplus adapter and try reinstalling again after rebooting the system normally.
its fryed the GPU, sorry it won't work anymore, unless a miracle happens. If it was off and you left it off until it completely dried out (6-7 days) it would of still worked.
Water spills are terminal for a powered up laptop....especially the older Dv1000s. I am afraid your dv1000's motherboard is fried. There is no resurrecting from that.....you need another motherboard.
my friend had a laptop that did something similar so i got him an lcd ribbon cable replacement off ebay and that fixed it. i dont know if thats whats wrong with yours, but its a possibility. here is a link to a cable on ebay
Adapter must have died. Have you also tried fully charging your battery?
