Question about Singer 7442 Mechanical Sewing Machine

Wont pick up bobbin thread

Consew Model 230RH, I cannot get this machine to pick up the bobbin thread, I just purchased a new bobbin case and neadles. I purchased this machine on Ft. Bragg from the sport parachute team and I know it worked, I have watched the lady use it for years, that' s why I bought it. When I went to pick it up the bobbin case and needles were missing. So I ordered them locally. It doesn't make the loop it's like there is nothing for it to grab hold of. Which way is the needle suppose to point (thread hole)? And how far in should the needle be I've tried to move it up and down, certain spots seem like it tries to loop. I hope you can help. thanks

The needle goes with the flat side to the back. Also make sure that you have the bobbin placed in the casing properly. If it is backwards this will cause problems. If you go to this site http://www.sewshop.com/Lead_%20Sewing_Machines_%20singer_simpicity_brother_janome-2-.htm you may be able to order a manual for your machine. Hope this has helped. Best of luck. My consew model 225 just had a new belt and oiled was sewing this morning and last night leather but will not pick up the bobbin thread just poking holes into the leather. Please help

Check bobbin threading and tension. Make sure correct needle is installed and threaded right. Belt and oil have zero to do with the problem.

I need a manual for a model 230 consew, I recently bought it from a friend, I want to learn how to thread it, and wind my bobbins, can you help me, unable to find one

You can go to the consew official website and download the PDF file for the 210 model. It's the same as the 230 r-1 (which i have). I found this information by calling the consew headquarters. You can also download a PDF with the full parts list for the 230 model specifically. This link may help http://www.consew.com/default.aspx?pageId=4

My husband purchased an old model Consew machine. It is mounted on a table and came with the instruction manual for models 225 & 226R-1. The machine will NOT pick up the bobbin thread. Any ideas?

Check your manual to see which way the flat side of the needle shank should face. With modern machines, it's usually to the rear, away from you, but with older machines there was more variation.

The most common reason the needle won't pick up the bobbin thread is because the flat side of the needle is facing the wrong way for that machine.

Hope this helps!

Thread stuck around the bobbin housing on my

try cleaning all that you can out of the bobbin case then try very carefully to bump it backward (opposite) with the hand wheel . Be careful not to knot out of timing. sounds like you have thread in between bobbin case and hook

Consew 206RB, threading problem?

This machine has a safety clutch which is designed to protect the hook mechanism. To access it, place the machine on it's back. About 8-10 inches from the right side you will see an assembly on the main shaft. You need to hold this assembly with a push button located on the bed of the machine while you turn the handwheel. It will click in place when it is in the correct position. Once you've done this the machine should be back in time so it will sew.Hold the top thread ,turn the handwheel and draw the bottom thread up before you begin sewing. Place a piece of fabric under the foot , turn the wheel by hand to make sure there is no binding and that the thread is being picked up.

Thread braking

Check the condition of the top pressure discs and the bobbin case tension. Check for wear in the hook - is the bobbin case seated correctly? Check the tension spring in the bobbin case. I doubt timing has anything to do with the problem. Unless the hook's picking up the top thread a little late, thereby "spearing" the thread. The hook could be catching the thread loop too late. Sounds to me like there's a parts or a small adjustment problem. You don't mention thread or needle size. That's another area of concern at times.

Threading & bobbin won't pick up

Make sure the needle is inserted all the way in with the long groove to the left.
Threading is through 1)the thread guide 2)The tension 3)The take up lever 4) The needle eye (left to right).

Remove the needle plate, thread the machine. Turn the hand wheel and watch the thread in the needle to see if it is above the eye of the needle. If it is, the machine needs to be retimed.
