What is a parameter

In computer programming, a parameter is a special kind of variable, used in a subroutine to refer to one of the pieces of data provided as input to the subroutine.[1] These pieces of data are called arguments. An ordered list of parameters is usually included in the definition of a subroutine, so that, each time the subroutine is called, its arguments for that call can be assigned to the corresponding parameters.
Just as in standard mathematical usage, the argument is thus the actual value passed to a function, procedure, or routine (such as 37 in log(37)), whereas the parameter is a reference to that value inside the implementation of the function (log in this case). See the Parameters and arguments section for more information.
In the most common case, call by value, a parameter acts within the subroutine as a local (isolated) copy of the argument, but in other cases, e.g. call by reference, the argument supplied by the caller can be affected by actions within the called subroutine (as discussed in evaluation strategy).
The semantics for how parameters can be declared and how the arguments get passed to the parameters of subroutines are defined by the language, but the details of how this is represented in any particular computer system depend on the calling conventions of that system.

Im trying to use Algebra on the new calculator I bought, as its important for my school use. As an example, I write: 3x+3x and that result is 0? How come? Shouldn't it be 6x?

This calculator cannot do algebra ( manipulating expressions with letter symbols) . It does not have a CAS (computer Algebra System). All it can do is evaluate (find the numerical value of) expressions typed in. If it has the appropriate keys to enter variables such as A,B,C, or X and Y., and you entered an expression with variables it will use the numerical values stored in the variables. If you have not stored anything in a variable, it is given the value 0 by default.

How would I do an equation such as -2x(-2x + 3y) how would I type that into calculator

I am sorry to be the messenger with bad news, but this calculator does not do symbolic algebra. It does not have a solve function either.
You do have 5 memory variables in which you can store numerical values but it will not do you any good in this particular case.

Anyway, there is nothing you can do with such an expression (IT IS NOT an equation, just an expression) , except some cosmetic change 2x(2x-3y) or expand it 4x^2-6xy.

Storing
  1. To store numerical values in the variables A,B,C,D,X,Y and M you use the [SHIFT][RCL] key combination to access the (STOre) function.
  2. In what follows [ key] is the physical key and (key) is the SHIFTED key
  3. ex: store the value 13 in variable A
  4. 13 [SHIFT][RCL] (STORE) [(-)] (A)
  5. The calculator displays 13 --> A on top line and 13.000.. on bottom line.
Recalling
  • To recall a value stored in a variable ex: recall value stored in variable A
  • Press [RCL][(-)] (A)
  • Calculator displays A on top line and 13 on bottom line.
If you need to use the variables A,B,C,D,X,Y, and the = sign to create an expression to be solved with the solve( function you must press the [ALPHA] key

=: [ALPHA] [CALC](=)
A: [ALPHA][(-)] (A)
B: [ALPHA][ 0 ' "] (B)
X: [ALPHA][ ) ] (X)
Y:[ALPHA][S<=>D] (Y)
etc.

Casio fx-7400G PLUS cubic solver?

Hi,
First let us repair the terminology.

  1. You can evaluate any expression (find the value of any expression for a particular value of its variable).Store a value in the variable, say X. Key in the expression and press [EXE].
  2. You can consider your expression(should not contain a relational operator such as =, greater than, less than, greater than or equal to, less than or equal to) to be a function Y1(x) = expression and graph it, or generate a table for it. You will have several values of the function calculated at various points.
  3. You can set your expression equal to 0 and find the particular value(s) of the variable (the unknown) that make the equality TRUE. That is called solving an equation.
I am not sure that it has a solver (solving an equation or an inequation) but you can always draw your expression as a function and explore the graph (SKTCH) to locate the roots (or zeros) of the functions (the values of the variable where the function equals zero.) That is called solving graphically.

Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa and for rating this solution.

How do enter a lim of function when from one side using nderiv

Hello,
nDeriv( is valid only for real variables.
The syntax is as follows:
nDeriv ( expression, variable, value, epsilon)

expression: the function the derivative of which you want to calculate
variable: the name of the variable in the expression above (usually x)
value: the numerical value of the e x where you evaluate the derivative
epsilon: the numerical value of the tolerance. Default is 1x10^(-3). But you can change it to a smaller value to obtain a more precise result.

To use default value of epsilon
nDeriv ( expression, variable, value)

To use a different epsilon, ex 1x10^(-4)
nDeriv ( expression, variable, value, 0.0001)

nDeriv( A^3 , A, 5., 0.0001) should give you 75

Hope it helps.

Find square of -x

Hello,

I do not know how you could have obtained the first result: The only possibility is that your X has been assigned a value of 1. Even if it was the case, the calculculator shown on the left (TI83PLUS SILVER Edition) does not do symbolic algebra.

For the second case, I suspect some way or other, the variable X store a value of 10. When you enter (-X)^2 the calculator retrieves the value stored in the variable X and performs the calculation, which does yield 100.

Note: to store a value in one of the 26 variables (letters) you proceed as follow
10 STO-> ALPHA X
The screen displays 10->X
When you press ENTER it displays 10.0..

To recall a value stored in the X variable you type
2ND RCL ALPHA X.

Hope it clarifies the question.

Javascript code for generation of textbox on clicking

Kapil, Pretty much just copy and paste that and change the title part in parentheses. Play with the code a little bit and see what you come up with. Be sure to keep backups each time you make a change! Code <html><head><title>(Type a title for your page here)</title>

<script type="text/javascript">
function make_blank()
{
document.form1.type.value ="";
}
</script>

</head>
<body >

<form name=form1 method=post action='test.php'>
<b>Type</b><input type=text name=type value='Enter your user id' onclick="make_blank();">Enter User ID
<input type=submit value=Submit> </form>

What type of order form? My advice would be to use Dreamweaver CS3 but heres a basic form with script that could be easily adapted to an order form.
