Re: information not in manual
The dvd-vcr button selects which of the two is connected to the output jacks for monitoring.
The Copy button is a very convenient way to just pop a DVD and a blank tape into the unit - hit "copy" and it should just do it.

To dub a DVD, first press Setup on the remote. Then select Recording (use the Up/Down arrows and then press OK). Navigate to and select Dubbing Mode. Select the direction for the duplication. Then press Setup to leave the Setup menu. Then press DVD to ensure that the unit is ready to play the DVD. (Press VCR if you are dubbing a video tape.) Then Press Play to advance to the section that you wish to duplicate, if needed, and then press Pause. (Press Pause a bit early; the dubbing process will lose about 5 seconds.) Now, press the other Mode button (VCR if recording to tape, DVD if recording to DVD). Next press D.Dubbing on the recorder or the remote. (The button is to the right of the Channel Up/Down buttons on the recorder. It's near the bottom left on the remote.) Press Stop when the section to be duplicated has been played in its entirety.
Can you provide the model of DVD/VCR player? Not all models do this.
For the ones that can, you need to use the Dub feature. Put a blank DVD (or one with sufficient space) in the DVD tray; initialize the disc if you are using a rewritable disc (RW). Then put the VHS tape into the VCR (you may want to break off the write protection tab). Then set the unit to VCR mode and forwared the tape to the desired recording point (copy-protected tapes can't be copied). Then some models have a dub or copy button on the unit and/or on the remote (press it and follow the onscreen prompts to select VCR to DVD, recording quality and press Enter to start). The copying will stop when you press Stop or run out of space on the DVD. On some models, you need to do this with the on-screen menus. For those, the look for a Dub feature (where it is will vary in the menus - usually in the same submenu as timed recording) and then select VCR to DVD and the rest.
I hope this helps.
Cindy Wells (I'll be glad to provide more information if you provide a specific model. I've worked with several brands and there are some differences in the setup routine. My current unit is a Zenith with a Copy button on both the front panel and the remote.)
You can find a copy of the manual on the web link provided here:http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/magnavox/mwr20v6_1.html Print a pdf copy for yourself. If you need more help the customer care for you dvd/vcr player is at this telephone number. 1-800-605-8453 give them the model number of your dvd/vcr unit and they will be able to help you. I hope this information helps you with your problem.
Did it come with a manual? I would recommend reading it. If you don't have a manual I would order one from Toshiba. If it is anything like my DVD/Video recorder you just put the tape and DVD in and hit the "Dubbing" button. You can not copy Macrovision recorded tapes.
