Best option for repair is CanonUSA repair service (presuming your are in USA). Your warranty will have their contact info, or you can get if from their web site. Though still under warranty, since it was dropped, I'd guess they would charge for the repair (but might be kind enough to give you a break on costs). Another possibility is a local Canon authorized repair shop, but what, and the extent, of damage may preclude anyone other than Canon's repair location from attempting any repair. Dropping it is a bummer, huh?!

What is the purpose of the limit/full switch

It limits the focus range. In full, the camera will hunt from one end of the focus range to the other as it seeks to autofocus. You can limit the hunting to one end or the other if you know what you're shooting. This saves time (and battery power) by not hunting focus all over the place.

Mine seems fine. The only other thing I would think to check is the focus lock is off and the focus area setting.

Autofocus on my Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 EF IS fails

Hello. First, check the contacts on the lens mount--you're looking for bent pins, oxidized(odd-colored) metal, damaged contact points, etc. The camera must communicate reliably with the internal circuitry of the lens unit. If there is any dirt, moisture, intermittent contact going on, the sensitive focusing electronics will be effectively blinded. If all is fine with the contacts, then the problem lies with the circuits in the lens that provide critical focusing data to the camera. Movement of certain parts causes electrical changes to occur at a calibrated rate--if the camera loses connection, it can't tell if the lens is actually adjusting. You'll have to send the lens in for repair--http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=SupportIndexAct. This address should get you started.--Hope I helped!---Rick

If you don't know how to fix it yourself send it to Sigma UK (01707 329999). They are quite resonable charges for that sort of fault. Their website give a price guide depending on lens and fault. Steve

Hi.
If the camera is in autofocus, it might be hunting focus. This usually happens when you zoom out. You can avoid this by putting your camera in manual focus while zooming out.
Hope this helps!

what i do is usually put it onto manual focus then back to auto focus, what it may be is that you are using the wrong lens for your subject :/

This may be a problem with the autofocus itself, try the following:

  • If you have a different lens, see if the autofocus works with the other lens. If it does, there may be something wrong with your lens.
  • Clean the contacts (the little metal things between the lens and the camera) with a slightly moist, lint-free cloth
  • Try replacing the battery in the camera
If none of this helps, you may have to take your camera to a qualified repair person to get them to have a look at it.

Good luck!

Lens stops functioning

Have you tried this same lens with other cameras? Do you have another camera body you can try? or perhaps a friend with a Canon EOS Camera? Also try the following please: Remove the lens. Look at the lens mount contacts, take a Cotton swap with some rubbing Alchol & clean the contacts very well, both on the lens and the camera body. Is your camera reading the lens aperture range correctly (at least most of the time)? Also since you replaced the PCB on the lens, isn't it under warranty? Let me know if this works. Thank you, AJ.
