Re: Help me with my typewriter

You have a Code Button on the typewriter..hold this down while pressing the keytop with the Symbol wording or Icon. Or you have a slide lever in I II or III keyboard.Change this and it should go back to normal.

Letters don't show on paper no imprint on ribbon. keys sound like they are typing but nothing shows on paper

Chances are that the print head is not locked forward. This happens when the daisy wheel or either of the ribbons are replaced. Just push it forward until it clicks

The hammer on our typewriter won't strike, it just quit in mid type. Any suggestions? When we push a key, it will not strike the letter for it to print on the paper.

Hi - there a many reasons why this happens. Try these first. Replace the ribbon. This might have become tight (faulty) and make this happen. Next clean the main rod that the carriage goes back and forth on, it sometimes get very sticky. Then place a couple of drips of oil on. This should work wonders? Best John ex OEM trained mechanic

Correction bar not working. When I type in a word and hit correct, instead of lifting the lettter off the paper it types the letter I typed in bold. Is there a button I can push to correct this from...

The correction tape may be installed wrong, or it may be a tacky L/o that will stick nand not raise up..

Press the Code button and the Q/Reset button at the same time and the wheel will spin and go back to the correct place.

Types wrong characters

If the typewriter is typing letters or symbols that you do not type, it is usually because the Pitch Selector is set to "PS". The pitch selector is on the left hand side and has the numbers 10,12, 15 and PS. Place the selector on 10 or 12 and you will be OK.
Also, check to make sure your printwheel is installed properly. Remove it and put it back in to make sure.

Another thing you can try is to clear the memory. To do this, turn off the machine. Place a piece of paper in the machine sideways. Hold down the MAR REL key and while holding it down, turn on the machine. Wait 2 seconds, then let go of the key. The typewriter will start typing. Shut the machine off after about 15 seconds. Then turn it on as usual. This will clear the typewriter's memory and unexpected charaters should not happen anymore.

Problem: Typewriter isn't typing any letters on the paper.

Is the platon properly seated? Sometimes the platon (the rubber tube thing that you crank the paper around) has been removed and then not returned all the way down into its cradle. Try pushing both sides down with equal pressure and see if it drops down and tightens. Good luck!
