Problem w/ Company of Durabrand

By dancinqt1 on Jan 24, 2008

" "
My mother purchased 4 Durabrand Portable DVD playersand kept 2 of them and gave 2 to her grandchildren. All of a sudden we started having problems w/ all 3 of them saying No Disc or can't read Disc. She brought it to a electonics repair store and they said the laser was broke on all of them. The repair man said to fix the laser would cost more than to purchase a new product. We tried contacting the company through website which is www.Lenoxx.com also the Evergo Corp. There number is disconnected. (1-800-315-5885). And the email Evergo@att.net is suspended. Our DVD's should still be under warranty bc its only been 1 yr since the purchase. But our problem is we can't get in touch with the company to get a repair or replacement. Walmart is one of there major sellers. They now have a problem on there hands. I reccomend no one buy Durabrand anymore!! How can you trust a company who all of a sudden disappears. Point is 'You Can't!!' Any suggestions on help w/ this problem.

- I just found out that the Durabrand company, also www.lenoxx.com / Evergo Corp. went out of business. No telling how long they've been out of business, but the managers of Walmart tried to locate them and found out themselves that they no longer exist. Make a note not to buy Durabrand products!!! The company No longer exists! Hmmm, I wonder why.......lol

-   I also have a Durabrand DVD player. The car battery adapter is broken, and I could not get a hold of Evergo even though their website is still in operation. If we could trade parts, perhaps one of our units could still be functional. :-)-   dbuller

I found out this info on the web:

"Here is some info for the Durabrand 7" portable DVD player, there is a one year parts warranty by Initial Technology Inc and 90 days labor. you have to contact them directly. 800-216-5156 You must have the date of the receipt, but they said that you can have the unit scanned at the store for the purchase date. By the way, my DVD player worked perfectly until my son spilled milk on it, and then I had no problems getting the company to fix it (I did have to pay some labor charge).
After one year though, you have to take it somewhere else. Intial Technology will still help troblehoot over the phone though."

Also a link to this site:

One suggestion i to make sure that the disc is clean. You can also try cleaning the laser lens on the DVD player. Try that first. When I owned my repair shop, a lady brought in a VCR and said the last shop said the heads were bad and wanted $100.00 to replace them. I took at look at it and turns out the heads just needed cleaned. Doesn't hurt to get a second opinion.

Good Luck!

go to this link and file a complaint
this company that made it is out of business and has been for a long while...long enough that WalMart was very well aware of it and continued to sell their stock at theire full markup price....if they really had any concern for consumers (and wanted to get the product out of their warehouse) they should have sold it at a very reduced price with a full statement from them to got to each consumer that the manufacture was out of business and the warranty could not be honored by WalMart or any other company http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/403/RipOff0403320.htm#373843. That is, if they cared about the consumer, but unfortunately they don't. They also by research had to know there were some major problems with a large number of the items being defective, which makes since that the company manufacturing them did not care what quality since they knew they were going to sell to WalMart and close their doors (one wonders why they closed since many companies have gone belly up when WalMart made such harsh demands on the price they purchased the items at being many times less than or almost the cost of the manufacture. They manufactures fold due to the situation.

Anyway if enough persons can file complaints, started with the link above...maybe we all can have a class act suit and settle this problem! The money spent has been lost and I am a disabled (100%) Grandmom that is raising a 10 yr old Grandson by myself, on a very limited income and to me Walmart robbed me as well as others. (also has a very upset little boy that his portable dvd does not work).

File a complaint to your own Atty General also.

Sorry to give such bad news....I sincerely know how you feel.

God Bless
