Question about Garmin Rino 530 GPS Receiver

Fix or not

The mic on my gps does not work. I can hear everyone, but they can not hear me. Is it worth the $150 to send in to Garmin to fix or should I buy the newer model for a couple hundred more.

i have had the same problem with 2 of the 530's. 1 I managed to RMA one back to Garmin last year and now the second has the problem, but it comes and goes. I think it works fine with an external mike and head set.

Kind of angry they are about 3 years old and have only been used about 7 days!!

I had the same issue, I could hear everyone, but no one could hear me. Ended up calling tech support and had to send the unit back to Garmin for the fix.

I had the same problem. My temporary fix (in the field) was to jar it with the palm of my hand a few times until it started working. It happened a couple other times during my week long trip.

I ended up sending it in and getting a refurbished one ($150)...the wrist strap loop on the case was broken too, so it made my decision a little easier.

It can. I believe Garmin has a flat fee for fixing. On the newer models like yours I think it $150. I would wait till something really goes wrong before sending it in for repair.

I can hear the other person on the phone through

It appears you have successfully paired the cell to the GPS, so going forward:

The mic on the 760 is behind a very small opening on the front left bezel (if my memory serves me right) of the 760. If you are far away from the mic, the other person will have trouble understanding you. If you can get closer to the GPS during a test call, ask the other person if they can understand you any better. If they are unable to hear you at all, there is a problem with the mic or mic circuit. There is no adjustment for the mic. If the 760 is no longer under warranty, it may be cheaper to buy an external mic. Garmin sells one - but you may find one at radio Shack, etc. An external mic is connected to the cradle - not the GPS directly. If neither internal or external mic works, it's a problem within the unit and will likely have to be sent to Garmin for repair.

Click Stick "enter" function not working

I have exactly the same problem, stick doesnt work up, left or enter. I encountered this website:

It's at our own risk and I havent tried it myself yet, but still, it might be worth it.

The earplug/headset input on my Garmin Nuvi 660 is broken.

Interesting problem but I have repaired this problem before. This is not going to be something you can fix yourself.....believe me... I have 30 years of experience in Electronics.

The headphone jack either has to be resoldered or replaced. When its loose, in most cases the pins of the jack are broken and/or the printed circuit board tracks have been torn off the board. The jack is a surface mount part.

A new jack must be installed but there is no way to solder in a new jack because the printed circuit board tracks are gone. The new jack must be installed with epoxy to the board and new wires have to be soldered from the printed circuit board to the jack.

There's around 2 hrs worth of work involved in this repair.

Have you tried pushing the reset button on the back under the antenna?

Try turning it on and listen for any sound, like the start up beep. Do you hear any sound at all after 30 seconds?

There's a couple possibilities that could have happened.

1. The screen and/or main board has been damaged.
2. The screen cable has come loose from the main board.

If the unit is under warranty (registered with Garmin) you can call them and see if they will fix it for you. They may charge you if they determine it was dropped or mishandled. www.garmin.com

If you have problems with getting them to fix it for you, I'll be happy to look at it for you and give you a quote. I have repaired many Nuvi's and I have references.

If interested, please email me at ks3r at sharc dot net.
