Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven
This morning my microwave just quit working. Everything works fine on it but the actual heat. The light works, the fan, etc.
Any idea without calling a repair man? I am a single mother taking care of a sick parent. However, I am very handy with mechanics.
It could be the Magnetron. First, If the unit is out of warranty, you can try to remove the rear cover (make sure unit is unplugged) and see if there is a blown fuse in the section that powers the Magetron. If all the fuses are good, I would suspect a faulty Magnetron. The Magnetron is the microwave tube which makes the food cook. They are not too difficult to replace. MCM Electronics sells them and you can call them with your model and they can find a replacement for you will be able to see how much it will cost.

Tina, BEWARE! the magnetron is supplied by 24thousand volts some of which is retained in the HV Capacitor after the unit has been turned off and dis-connected. It can cause you to hurt yourself
I suspect the power relay board. Cold solder joints that feeds 120volts to the HV Transformer. Well known failure with GE Microwaves.
