Question about Dell A425 Computer Speakers

5 Answers

Speaker volume on one side extremely low

I've had Dell A425 speakers w/subwoofer for 3.5 yrs, and all of a sudden the volume is one of the speakers is extremely low compared to the other. If I turn the balance to the low volume speaker, I can still hear it, but it is a whisper compared to the other.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I tried everything that I can think of. It's not the balance control.

Someone suggested to me to check the resistors in the subwoofer, so I took the back panel off but the innards wouldn't come out of the hole.??? All of it was connected to the back panel, which wouldn't come off, completely.

Maybe it is blown, but it was never turned up loud enough for me to consider it being blown.

I ended up just getting new speakers. I got the Bose Companion II, and they sound just as good, if not better than the Dell. Plus, there is no sub-woofer to take up space... they don't need one.

Same thing has happened to my a425 speakers. Had them for about 5 years now, and all of a sudden I noticed the right side speaker (one with volume knob) has a lower volume than the other. Of course I checked the balance on the software side, everything's fine there. I opened up the right speaker to check the connections... everything seems connected ok, and the speaker inside looks fine, no corrosion or burnt-looking areas, speaker cone is fine. Definitely doesn't sound like it's blown, there's no rattling at all. I wonder if the magnet has somehow become weaker over the years... certainly possible, but that doesn't explain the difference between both speakers, they should have both weakened at approximately the same rate.

Maybe I'll think about calling dell for a replacement if my warantee is still good

The pots are dirty,I have the same problem and I am going to open it up and spray some electrical contact cleaner on the pot( volume thingy)

My a425 speaker went too! just one side.(control side)
did you hit the volume control on the tool bar next to the clock? right click it and go to advanced.
also go to control panal then to sounds.... make sure the balace it not on 1 side.
good luck. Target store has some nice speaker sub woofer.... look at the altec lancing VS2321.... they make your dell speakers .

I need the driver for it, i have no sound

There are no drivers for the A425 speakers. Make sure the power cable is attached to the speakers as well as the speakers plugged into the correct jacks. If your speakers are plugged in and powered on and u still have no sound; check to make sure the sound card drivers are installed.

Dell a425 disassembly

I found this URL for you that shows a Dell forum where you could probably get all the info you need. It also has specifications for all the internals should you need to replace something. Good luck and be safe. I learned to hate capacitors a long time ago. :-)

A425 subwoofer, more bass? wires came off, no bass managment.

I wouldn't cross wires or leave one disconnected. Can you solder the wires back on the the control knob? Did you feel the subwoofer cone to see if it's working at all? I would guess the wire you didn't connect, is the subwoofer wire. Try putting it back to original cofiguration and solder the wires in place.
