If you purchased it online, it should be in an e-mail sent to you by Microsoft. If you bought it from elsewhere, it could be that they didn't sell you a legal (licensed) copy. The Product Key is a 25 character (five groups of five alpha-numeric characters, separated by a hyphen) number, which your software will need to become activated.

Sorry but Fixya doesn't allow any illegal activity. But what I can do is advice you to download a FREE compatible program instead that works like MS Office. It can create/open/edit MS office files. It is FREE and LEGAL. Here is the link:

Product key for microsoft office 2007 home and student

There is no free product key for the microsoft products
Please contact the Microft website or support to purchase the product key

However, you can install and use the microsoft open office to read the MS word documents. It will act same as MS office application

Download the open office from below website

I have been using emachine laptop with microsoft office home and student on it.i cannot work on it because it keeps asking for product key.the one i have on the laptop is not working.please help.

The product key is basically a license / receipt that tells Microsoft you paid for the software.

So you can try tracking one down by searching the web ;)

OR you can download a trail version of Office 2010 which will allow you to use office for 30 days (usually)

Or you can use Open Office which is an open source aka FREE version of office. It's similar and not as flashy but it gets the job done.

Here's a link to Open Office.

Hope this info helps.

I just bought this brand new laptop and it has Vista on it... then the MS Office Home/Student 2007 and that kept asking me for a Prod Key... I tried the one on the laptop and it doesnt work

the one that you are trying to enter is the product key for your windows operating system. MS Office Home/Student 2007 edition has a separate product key. what was installed in your system is an MS Office Home/Student 2007 trial version. you need to purchase the product key at microsoft website.

I want to be able to use my microsoft office home and student 2007 but everytime i go into it it askes for the number which i do not have. never have been able to use it as the shop where i purchased didnt...

You will need to have a genuine/Valid product of Microsoft office 2007, providing the key you can unlock the program... You can purchase it either from local market which comes with CD/DVD package or from Microsoft site.

Thanks for joining Fixya....

For more help please stay connected.

Have a nice day.
