I need to reinstall windows xp home edition i have the product code but no disk

I have used full install/ disk from other brands of computers (or other dell model numbers)to reinstall operation system (must be winxphome, dont worry about service pack, you can update). If you use any dell reinstallation cd, most likely you will not have to enter your key. If you use any other computer brand, or borrow someones xphome full install disk (not upgrade), then you will need to enter your key. Only problem of using for example emachine full install disk is that is will have emachine themes. Also you will likely need to down load other drivers. You are not lemited to to using reinstall cd for your model number. Good luck

Theres no sound on my dell inspiron 6000 and it said no device driver installed and so i downloaded the softwere from dell and i checked windows audio was turned on and updates and i even tried...

Try running diagnostics on your computer to seeif you have a hardware problem. You should have a CD that came with thecomputer that has "Diagnostics and Utilities" listed under contents.Boot form this CD and run the extended diagnostics.
If you don't have the CD you can go to andselect "Drivers and Downloads". Enter the "service tag" (serialnumber) of the computer. You can then download "Diagnostics" .
To boot from a CD disk, power on your computer and tap the key tobring you to the "One time boot menu". Insert the CD into the top CD/DVD driveand then select "Boot from CD/DVD" and hit key. Select the"Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics.

I want oto reformat my computer

Lil, What do you mean by reformat? If it is the exact computer lingo then you want to erase everything from the HDD and reinstall Windows. is that what you want. If yes, then you must be prepared to lose all data unless you back it up before doing that and also reinstall all the programs that you have besides Windows, which in any case you are reinstalling. To do this you must first back up the data to a removable disk or a different partition of the HDD. Insert the Windows CD into the CD drive and reboot. Follow the instructions and after two reboots you will have a new installation of Windows. Now restore the data that you backed up. Also, reinstall all the programs that you had earlier or atleast those that you want now.

Need to factor reset,|NOT REBOOT, for acer aspire 3630 windows xp

Hi and welcome to Fixya..

Reinstalling Windows XP on an Acer Aspire 3000 is fairly straightforward. You may need to reinstall Windows XP due to hardware failure, a virus infection, major hardware changes or a hard drive upgrade. Whatever the reason, you can do the reinstall yourself at home. The reinstall will take anywhere from 1 1/2 to 3 hours, depending on the size of your hard drive. Be aware that reinstalling Windows XP will format your hard drive, getting rid of all data on, so you'll want to back it all up on a media device.
  • Step 1
Back up all data on your computer before reinstalling.
  • Step 2 Insert the Windows XP disk and restart your computer.
  • Step 3 Press any key when prompted to begin running the disk.
  • Step 4 Press F8 to agree to the terms of service.
  • Step 5 Choose the partition you want to reinstall Windows XP on. This is usually "C:" for most users.
  • Step 6 Choose the type of format. You can choose either "Quick" or "Full" for NTFS systems. A quick format only takes a few minutes less than the full format.
  • Step 7 Wait for the format to complete. The Windows XP installation wizard will begin. You will be asked to choose your time zone, computer name, and to input any network information. Otherwise, the reinstall will run by itself.

  • I hope this helps

Maxtor 200 gb external will not show up in my computer after numerous installs

For Vista you don't need any driver for this, it should recognize and install automatically.
Did you check the device manager to see if the disk is recognized in the device list?

Next step is to check the Disk Manager (right-click My Computer, select Manage and then select disk management), and see if the disk already has a partition and has been formatted. If not, then it will not show up in "My Computer" with a drive letter yet.

Some details on external hard disk troubleshooting might also help.

    Full Hard drive

you can merge to partitions on a single disk, although this should be one of your last resorts. when two partitions are created on a single drive the OS recognizes the two partitions as two seperate drives. From win xp pro, you can access all the data on the partition with xp home platform. the second partition will take up close to a gig of space that could be used. the simplest way would be to creat shortcuts to the programs you want in the partition for xp pro. then right click my computer> properties> advanced> start up and recovery settings> select win xp as the default OS and deselect the box marked "time to display operating systems"

this will stop that annoying 30 sec pause that you get when you start your computer asking which OS you want to run.

or if you seriously want to merge the two, here is a link with a download that will this file and creat an disk to insert into the disk drive and restart to load from the disk

the only thing is that if you write over or delete files that those programs need to run smoothly, you will have to reinstall them completely. in which case you would be just as well off to back up your info and do a clean install. i trust you will be able to determin which solution is best for you needs.
Personally if i had programs i wanted to save, i would take the first option and just have two partitions

My computer logs on then right back off i may have deleted some files

That fix I gave you is very specific, you must use an original Windows install CD that matches your version of XP, in other words it must be XPHome, XPHome SP1 or XPHome SP2 just as it must be XPPro, XPProSP1 or XPPro SP2.
You can use a disk that is not yours but the reason it must match exactly is at some point you will be asked to type in the COA key(sticker on the side of your case) and if the CD and COA sticker don't match it will stop there and go no further.
If you have a friend with the same version on CD you can use their copy just to do the install.
I am guessing that your computer was bought in a store and is a known brand like Compaq, Gateway or Emachines.
If this is the case you will have what is known as a recovery partition on your harddrive, if you instigate the recovery procedure you will wipe your computer clean and it will revert to as it was when you bought it, BUT, you will lose all your personal files.
IF this is the case let me know because there are ways to recover your personal files before using the recovery procedure.
If this is too much information for you please let me know, leave a comment here, contact me by email or phone, let me know and I can give you contact details.
The problem you are having I deal with everyday, I am surrounded by Uni students who seem to be able to break their computers every other day.

    Not d perfect sound..

go into your device manager and click on the sound devices re install the driver. go into control panel click on sounds icon choose the windows default theme . that should give you sounds if not try re installing the sound card. go to your control panel device manager uninstall sound card restart your computer and it should automatically reinstall the sound card with the proper device driver if not go to windows update to update . you should try windows update first as when you format it rolls back all your drivers to before update status.
