When trying to install Windows XP professional(with SP2) onto my 200Gb Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA hard drive,Windows does not detect the HDD.It is connected to an ASUS A7N8X D/L motherboard and everything works OK with my 160Gb Maxtor DiamindMax SATA HDD. I have tried the jumper in both positions without success. Why is the 200Gb HDD not detected? - It is detected on my son's pc.

You mean the setup doesn't load? Also when installing Windows, the first part it copies data to the just formatted harddrive. Then it reboots, but make sure it doesn't reboot from CD because then it wil start all over again. It must boot from harddrive after it copied files to your drive.

The setup data is located on you HDD from that moment on.

Or isn't this what you mean?

all you need is there, at HP, we are not HP, we are lame chat box.
there are many causes here, (virus tops lists)
It can be many things,, bad OS corruption or bad hardware
like this.
1: take the main battery out and test it like that on AC power pack.
but the steps are complex in this integrated PC, battery that I avoid.
so this is show stopper from non tech, no?
page 43 stated here clear as day.

2: the HDD can be bad, we run Linix DISK tests on it,
smart tests and full scans on it from Linux
the BIOS hdd tests is first, if fails it bad HDD. BIOS HDD tests
are rudimentary so if passes this test means zxero to me.

Hit F11 and do a restore

My HP Compaq nx6610 hangs in all stages of booting and when starting up. The problems is when you press power switch to re-boot, the screen remains at "press F10 to enter bios." The same happens...

Well they all do infected, (oldest story there is on PC';endless)
which OS?, oper. system. XP the Virus magnet?
HP only supports VISTA as newest OS for the OLD notebook
Rule1 : it must run on AC power only (wall power) battery out
batteries are shorted lived, and can short. so. get it out of there first.
get the PC working that try battery. LAST OF ALL.
That is first.
Its not hot, 30c is cold.
You re-installed, windows. via, what the HP disks?
DId you boot from the CD? from HP>? to do a fresh install?
or some old Microsoft disk? no disk or OS stated here.
When you use a CD to install after the setup.exe runs
it reboots the PC and the CD MUST be removed.
or keeps repeating the 1st phase of install for ever.
phase2 runs off HDD, to complete, if this fails the HDD dead.
HDD can be 1/2 good, and fail see? like a glass of water with small hole... bad.

if that fails, the HDD is bad, or power to it is weak. (wrong)
Did the install complete.?
DId you make sure BIOS is booting to the HDD?
HDD = hard disk drive.
My wild guess unseen is (near useless) IS, HDD bad.
put in a new SSD drive and win.
your PC is near end of support at HP
get the software seen below and keep it. for later.

here are drivers (pick your OS and use those) just drivers.

next get the media kit, from HP,

here is the media kit page, the official HP install disks or USB stick way.

My evo610c would not start and failed the HDD self test. I installed a new hard drive. It now passes the HDD self test, but will not go past the screen that says "not-system disk, replace and try again"....

Put the Windows CD disk into the CD-drive.
Turn the computer off.
Turn the computer on, and immediately look for a message like "press F12 to change boot order", or something like that. Tell the computer to first try to boot from the CD-drive. When it boots, the installation process will start.

My dell inspiron 1525 has a black screen with a white cursor showing

First, I want to know if you sees the Dell logo after turning on the laptop? If yes then this is no boot issue.
1. Immediately run the PSA. Make sure laptop is off. Press and hold down the Fn key, while holding down Fn key press the power button at the same time just once. Once the Dell screen loaded you can now let go of the Fn key. Check if the PSA will run short test for the LCD, RAM and HDD. When full color displays on the screen just press Y. PSA will continue. Just take note of any error code will appear on the screen such as 0141, 0142 and 0146 these are HDD failure errors which means HDD needs replacement. If the test says no errors found then proceed to step 2;
2. Try restarting the laptop once you see dell logo then keep tapping F8. Select last known good configuration. Press enter key. Just wait and check if laptop will load Windows. If not then, restart laptop keep tapping F8 try to select safe mode check if it will load Windows. If not then prepare the Windows OS disc the one came with your laptop.
3. While laptop is on insert the Windows OS disc. Restart the computer. On the Dell screen keep tapping on F12 to show boot menu. In the boot menu select CD/DVD ROM Drive. Press enter then keep tapping on space bar until it will say Windows loading files, please wait.
4. In the User Interface it will show you some options to select. Once the Install screen comes up look on the lower part select Repair Your Computer. If will ask you to do Startup Repair, please do start up repair. If fails try the System Restore. If fails then step 5;
5. If you have important files in your HDD then back up your files first. After backing up of files you can now install the Windows OS. Here is the process in installing the Windows OS. Insert the Windows OS disc, restart the laptop, keep tapping F12 on Dell screen, on boot menu select CD/DVD ROM Drive.Install the Windows OS. Just complete the installation. After the installation install the laptop drivers.

I cannot get windows to load..goes to an error screen which asks me to choose repair(recommended) or start window normally...then repeats

Run diagnostics on the system (Hold Fn Key and press Power) and see if the HDD fails diags. If it does, then replace the HDD.

If the DIags PASS

Boot to your windows XP CD, press R at the 1st prompt to enter recovery console, the run the command CHKDSK /R then see if the system will boot normally.

If no go, then reboot to the WIndows CD and continue the install and try a repair install of WIndows. If that fails, then try a clean install of Windows (Delete the existing NTFS partition and create a new one)

If all those fail, replace the HDD (Passing DIAGS does not ensure the HDD is good, just the diags didn't detect the failure)

Fail to load files during text mode setup

Maybe its a software problem, have you tried putting in a bootable XP installation CD? After the bios boot and it asks you to boot to CD, press R for repair, it will try to repair your OS, and if it is an OS problem ,then it will boot once again... If not you can try formatting your HDD and reinstalling windows...
