Have you tried firing the shutter at a slow speed in manual mode with the lens off to see if the shutter is opening?

The shutter assembly unit is mechanically defective, may be due to a broken plastic rod.

Set camera to the following:

Camera: 800 ISO
Camera Mode: Manual
Camera Shutter: 125, 60, 30, 15, 8, 4, 2, 1"

Lens: smallest F stop (small Aperture Number)
Lens Mode: M (manual), not S or C

Point lens attached to camera at 100 Watts light bulb or brighter from 10 feet.

Shoot at every shutter speeds and you will get a brighter images as shutter number are reduced.

If not, shutter trouble, camera or battery problem.

Assuming you have the exposure set correctly (if u set way underexpose, the frame will appear black). Try put it in "Auto" mode and see if it works.

If it doesn't, your mirror mechanism may be faulty. One way to check is to take a photo of 2 seconds or longer. Look into the viewfinder, can you see anything through the viewfinder during these 2 seconds?

currently on a trip in Europe and when I went to shoot this morning, I can only capture 1/3 of the area I'm shooting. That is everything in the lower 2/3 of the screen is black. I've tried a couple of lenses with no avail. Viewing previous pics is not a problem, so this is obviously not a screen problem. I'm thinking something with the mirrors? Any suggestionns

Firstly, you don't have to do every single frame again, unless you want it to be a fbf (frame by frame).
Secondly, one way to do lip syncing in flash, is to input the audio, and make lip movements. To test if you've done the lip sync right, test the video. Repeat process, till its perfect. You don't need anything else.

Flash

What's perfect to you may not be perfect to someone else, That is why this pro grade camera offers so much in the way of adjustments. One doesn't often GET the perfect picture. More often, one must CREATE the perfect picture..

Set the flash at "0" for the most uniform pictures, and try a better lit environment and work in the 4' to 8' range. Generally, your pictures taken outside in good light, with the sun at your back will be the best. The rest, especially flash, often require some manipulation of the environment..I.E. lighting.

A perfect picture requires a perfect subject, perfect pose, perfect foreground lighting, and perfect background lighting.

So, the answer to you question is; there is no perfect setting, which will constantly produce perfect pictures.

Good Luck..

Sometimes if you take photos against harsh light, it results in too much Contrast and makes the photos look in B&W. Please explain more details of the problem you are facing.
