Re: adapter issue

Pls reconnect the Ethernet cable back to the other PC and check how is its getting IP address, automatic (Obtain an IP...) or fix (Use the following...). To do this go to your Control Panel, click on Network Connections, right click on Local Area Connection, click on Properties, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click on Properties button. If it is the latter, note down the numbers.

Plug the Ethernet back to your laptop and do the same. Set your laptop's Internet Protocol Properties to mimic the other computer settings. The only possible difference would be is if the other computer is ticked on "Use the....", the IP address of the laptop should be different from the other PC. Example if the other PC is, make the laptop All others stay the same.

Hope this ne of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

"Ethernet cable unplugged"

A few things to try. Plug the cable into a different port on the router to rule out a bad port on router. Try a different ethernet cable (they do go bad). If this is an older router it may not be able to do logic swap on the pins and you would need to use a cross-over cable and not a straight through. Also check in device manager and make sure the computer is not allowed to disable the lan adapter in power saving mode. Also if your really want you can test your ethernet port by buying or making your own loopback plug. Look up ethernet stander T568A. You basically would buy a empty ethernet jack and run a short wire from pin 1 to pin 3 and a wire from pin 2 to pin 6. This will simulate sending data to another device (the other device will simply be the receiving pins on your own ethernet jack.

How to enable WPA security. i tried to enter the http://www. but the page is not showing theres no admin pls

Try - you don't enter www. in front of an IP. Check that this is actually your routers IP address by doing Start > Run. Type "cmd" without the quotes and press Ok. In the black window that pops up, type "ipconfig" without the quotes. You'll see something like this:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\root>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . :
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

C:\Documents and Settings\root>

If your Default Gateway Value is then you're good to go, otherwise this value will be what your routers address will probably be.

Ethernet connectivity problem.

  1. Click Start, click Run, type ncpa.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.
  3. On the General tab, click Configure.
  4. In the resulting dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
  5. In the Property list, click Media Type or Link Speed & Duplex or something similar.

Note If these properties do not appear, look for a property that has the values Duplex and Half-Duplex.
  6. Click a specific bandwidth in the Value list, and then click OK.
  7. Close the Network Connections dialog box.
  8. Test the network connection.
  9. If these steps do not resolve the issue, repeat steps 1 through 5, and then click a different value in step 6 until you have tested all values.
Check if that works.

Vista Wireless Problem: Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG

Hi Pete,

You sound like you know what you're doing, so forgive me if these suggestions seem foolish or patronising..
Does your laptop have a wireless button?

When you go to Internet Options and click the Connections tab, have you checked 'Never Dial a Connection'? This is essential..
I have exactly the same ethernet card and network adaptor, but haven't had any problems, and we have 2 laptops and 2 pc's here all detecting our router okay so..
It's definitely not MAC filtering on the router, as you would still see the network in your list..
I can only suggest uninstalling the Intel Pro Wireless driver and downloading a fresh one from here.
That'll reset default settings at least..
Hope this helps
Let me know how you get on.. If I face this problem I want to know how to fix it too!
