Braun 550 Toaster

Hello there,

I'm hoping someone can help me find a solution to my problem. I just bought a new toaster, and it worked fine on the first day, but from the second day, when i depress the lever to start toasting, it doesn't stay down and comes up immediately.

Re: Braun 550 Toaster

Return it to vendor for replacement.
Small electricals such as Toasters, Kettles, Computer parts, Audio & Cameras and the like do not get repaired - they get replaced and the seller is the place to go.

Tthe lever on my Braun HT 600 toaster won't stay down. 3 years old, but very moderate use. Ideas?

Be sure to unplug toaster first. While inverting your toaster, depress the toaster lever(s) and shake toaster to clear all bread crumbs. It can take up to several minutes of shaking to clear them completely, however, the key is to depress the toaster levers down at the same time. Also, remember to remove bread crumb trays and empty regularly, as the trays are too shallow and allow crumbs to build up quickly, thereby blocking the "locking mechanism" of the lever(s).

If after cleaning your toaster out thoroughly, the levers still won't remain depressed, try various outlets throughout your kitchen. Oftentimes, when one GFI (Ground Fault Indicator) trips, several outlets along the same circuit will also trip.

Also, there is a website called, which has a very good database of many manuals for various manufacturers and models of toasters, should all of the above efforts fail.

I did all of the above and fixed my toaster within five minutes. :- )

Good luck to you.

Lever to lower toast has snapped off just inside the toaster casing. It is plastic and cannot be reattached

Hello Sue, I've attempted to locate replacement parts for for Tefal Avante toaster, but there doesn't appear to be a broad source for these, which troubles me as I've got the same toaster and use it everyday.

I did locate the Tefal customer support/service contact that should be able to provide you with either a local authorized service location or provide you with the replacement parts you need to get it working again.

You can call Tefal directly at 1--800-395-8325 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday thru Friday, EST

Here's a link to the contact page, in case you prefer to send an email instead.
With luck, Tefal will be able to assist you in getting your toaster working like new soon.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Bad chemical smell coming from the new Kenmore toaster.

I would say return the toaster. No telling what kind of fumes would get into your toast -- toasted bread is like charcoal -- it'll absorb a lot of stuff.

I agree with the China/USA sentiment.

Greetings, Just bought a Kenmore toaster. and this thing stinks to high heaven of chemicals. So I plugged it in and ran it through a cycle and the burnt plastic/chemical Oder was/is enough to gag you. The...

Return it and get a different brand of toaster. That will solve the problem. Hopefully they will let you give a reason why, and someone will care (probably not).

If you do not want to do this, you can plug it in outside and run it through several cycles. This will probably burn out anything that is causing the smell.

Make sure that they didn't have anything packed in the crumb tray.

Digital Display no longer showing, lever won't stay down

jsullivan22 is right about the diode. I have this problem with my 24502, which is a dual version of this. There are 2 circuit boards in your unit one with the LED display on it and another one. The diode needing replacing is on the other board. it is in the center of the board, right next to a large (1/2W or 1W) 2K ohm resistor. The diode is probably part number 3ez24d5. Test it with the diode test on your DMM, if it is bad you will get 0V both directions (I think). Also if you measure it with the Ohm function it will probably measure less than an Ohm (check the zero on your DMM as many are not accurate down this low) You can probably replace it with a 1N5934BG or a 1N5359BG Mouser stocks both of these (currently). I haven\'t gotten my parts so I can\'t guarantee these will work, but I\'m pretty sure. I will try the latter first as I\'m hoping it\'s higher power rating will keep it from burning out again, although I will be buying several spares.

This is clearly a design issue with these toasters and one that could be easily corrected. Both circuit boards in my toaster are very toasty in the area of these diodes, although I\'m sure the fact that these boards are mounted very close to the heating elements doesn\'t help their longevity.

Hope this helps everyone.
