Go to control panel and in both mouse and keyboard check to make sure that settings are correct. Sounds as if maybe that is your problem. If that doesnt work, go into control panel, system icon, delete both the mouse and keyboard from device manager, restart your computer and let the system reload the correct drivers for them. Next try hooking up an external mouse and see if it works properly now, if it does but the pad on your unit still doesnt it may need to be replaced.
depending on your laptop this will vary
If the Fn (Function) button at the bottom left of the keyboard is pressed in conjunction with some other key on the keyboard it can result in the disabling of the mouse pad.
To enable your mouse pad on a Windows PC go to the Control Menu.
Under the Printers and Other Hardware option, click on Mouse.
Then, click on the tab on the top of the pop-up menu that says Device Settings.
The touch pad for your computer should come up as a selectable option.
Click on it and you will see the option to enable your device, then click OK
or
Right-click on a blank spot on your desktop. Scroll down, select "Personalize" and then choose "Mouse Pointer."
Click the "Device Settings" tab. Highlight your TouchPad in the "Devices" section. Hit the "Enable" button.
Click the "Apply" button and then click the "OK" button.
or
Click the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of your computer.
Type "mouse" in the field above the button. Click "Mouse" in the list of items that appear.
Click the "Device Settings" tab. Highlight the touchpad item in the "Devices" list.
Click the "Enable" button. Click the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button.
hope this helps
