Picture is dark

Hi, Over the last few months i have noticed the picture getting darker and darker. It is the same in all modes of operation and with all inputs. I had the problem with it poping and going off for a while but it always came back on with a loud pop after a few minutes. It hasn't done that in a while but the picture is almost so dark it is un watchable.

Re: Picture is dark

The trimpots on your focus block will probably need increasing/turning up and rebalancing to remedy the darkening of your picture, which I have encountered a lot in my calibrations lately, of your series of Elite. This irrevocably alters your grayscale and must be done by someone who knows what they are doing. After the grayscale has been rebalanced also, if you then spring for a professional grade optics cleaning the picture you get is bright, cheerful and as good as new. Have had numerous cross the country trips on these Elites this year and last year, testifying to this, with the results of these Mr Bob/Image Perfection calibration tours posted on the AVS Forum.

Upping the SubBrightness in the service menu will help, but is not as good a solution as actually re-biasing the current used in the CRTs themselves, which is what the Screen trimpots control.

The intermittencies you mention are common on this series. The PS - power supply - board needs a virtually complete resolder op, as the solder used in that run of units was weak and thin. It will not get better on its own, any more than needed dental work will.

Send it to me and I will resolder it and send it back. I have done so on a number of PS boards in this series, and am running at 100% success on saving the 510/610/710 series of Pioneer Elites when all they need is the resoldering op. There is a procedure to follow, so contact me directly.

Mitsubishi 62525 static on screen more noticeable with dark background cleaned filter and replace lamp

A few of these (not sure if this model) have two mirrors inside--stupid idea and only a few had that--.

If this is the case here--little mirror (I mean LITTLE) is at bottom pointing up from the optical lens--gets dust and such from the fans= picture gets darker to the point where brightness is very diminished.

Mitsubishi can tell you if it has two mirrors (the large one in rear of set must not be touched and never needs cleaning as any finger prints etc will show in the picture.

If two mirrors I can tell you what to do--15 minute two person job.

Screen getting dark

If you have never changed the lamp this is more than likely the issue, as the tv ages the lamp looses brightness. Most lamps are rated for 3000-5000 hrs of use. Replace the lamp assembly part # UX21514 and you will notice a much brighter picture. You do not mention if the tv plays the right colors on the entire screen. These have had light engine issues.
Good luck with it

Without more information, assuming its a Halide lamp, and the viewing angle of the TV hasn't also got worse I would say yes and quickly, if the image has degraded badly the lamp is close to failure which could cause further damage.
Although only a guide as some lamps last longer than others you should always keep an eye on the lamp hour counter The manual should tell you how long to expect from a lamp.

Picture getting darker

The tv has a room light sensor,
shine a bright light at it , does picture get brighter?
other wise when it is cool open the bulb door , is it coated or blackened, Don't touch bulb at all.

and a heavy covering of dust on internal mirrors will cause the same effect.
you will need help to clean it.

Your CRT coolant needs to be changed. Thats whats giving you the dim picture. You can also clean the projection mirror on the inside this often helps. But the coolant will need to be changed to get back the bright crisp picture. Hope this helps.

Picture is getting darker and darker

if the tv has never been service before you could have dust on the 3 tubes, this will decrease the brightness to the screen. try taking the front or back off & see if you can see the top of the picture tubes. remember to unplug the tv & to clean spray the cleaner on the colth , then clean the tup of the tube. never spary on the tube itself. hope this works for you.
