Whirlpool WBM35MW I just purchased a Whirlpool wbm35mw, and a few of your threads suggest the compressor draws 6amps instead of 2amps which cause it to play up. How can i check to see what mine is drawing, will i have the same problem. Is it a known problem with this model ? Cheers Z.

If you have reason to believe this is a problem...and I doubt can get an ampere tester from a number of online sites. One vendor is They run at least 20 dollars. The meters double as household testers in some cases. Others are recording meters which monitor specific appliances plugged in semi-permanently.

I have a whirlpool refrigerator model ED25TQXFW01 and it is not cooling. fan runs and it clicks but does not engage compressor. is it the compressor or the starter relay?

You can purchase a kit which is part number URCO410 which is a new relay, overload, and capacitor. If its a newer whirlpool you will want to hook the wires into your old capacitor. It comes with instructions its very easy to install. The reason you want to use your OEM capacitor is because it will draw a lower amperage and give your compressor a longer life as opposed to using the capacitor that comes with the kit. Hope this helps _MJ_

Whirlpool side/side. 3yrs old from Lowes. Something electrical tries to come on about every 30 seconds - 1 min. Hums for about 10 - 15 seconds and then stops. Freezer started not keeping everything frozen...

There is a relay overload on the compressor that makes a noise similar to what you are describing when the compressor does not start. Sometimes the electrical parts can be replaced, the rest the compressor is bad and needs replacement.

The other less likely possibility is that the ice maker is not hooked up, the arm got put down and the ice maker is cycling causing its heating element to run and the noise from the water valve.

If you pull off the back panel behind unit you should get some idea where noise is coming from

Refrigerator and freezer not cooling

Hi, If the lights are dimming, the compressor is drawing to many amps when trying to start. If the refrigerator is under 5 years old, I would check into the warranty. If it is over 5 years, You will be better off to get a new refrigerator.

I hope this gives you an idea on what is happening.

Whirlpool model#ed25texhw03 will not keep cool both side stopped getting cool clean coil front and back fan still blowing what may be problem

This could be a problem with the compressor.

When a compressor won't start and “clicks,” this indicates it (the compressor) is locked up and cannot start so it clicks off on an overload thermal (temperature) protector. If the compressor only runs for a short time then clicks off it is likely drawing too much amperage, overheating and cutting off on the overload protector. Nothing other than replacement can be done with a compressor that is locked up or drawing too much amperage as it is a problem with the internal components of the compressor.

It is absolutely crucial that the condenser coils are clean and the condenser fan motor, if there is one, operates properly or the compressor will overheat and go off on the overload protector. This handy condenser brush makes cleaning your refrigerator condenser coils a snap.

The compressor can be replaced but this is very expensive ($400- $500 parts & labor) due to the fact that the refrigerant needs to be reclaimed from the system and the compressor refrigerant lines unsoldered, new lines soldered on and new refrigerant charged into the system. This is something only a trained and licensed repair person can do. Compressors are part of the "sealed refrigerant system", many manufacturers warranty the components of this system for an extended period of time, usually 5 years from the purchase date.

Compressor will not work

  • it may be the compressor, check the temperature of the compressor when it has been running for a while. if it is too hot to touch then it is going bad. the compressor should only get warm not hot.
  • the start switch will also kick out if the compressor is drawing too much amps (even if cold) witch would also be a sign of a bad compressor.
  • another thing that could cause this problem is if the coils under the machine are dirty or the airflow is blocked. this will cause the heat to build up in the compressor and kick the start switch off.
  • compressors don't last as long as they used to.

WBM35MW: Beeping

Try first unplugging the fridge for ten minutes, this will drain power from circuits and can solve some problem of this kind.

If it did not work you have an electronic problem, probably a wire making contact or a faulty control board.

You can buy replacements here.

Or call the number listed on your user manual if you need to call a repairman.

Whirlpool WBM35MW

Further to my previous post, contacted Whirlpool Melbourne who acknowledged problem described and advised that warranty for sealed unit including compressor was five years not three. Gave me local Sydney service agent who called and after looking at unit said it was one of thousands with the same problem. Motor was too small at manufacture and complete sealed unit including larger motor would have to be fitted. All at no cost!!. Unit away for two days and have been told that larger motor will ensure no repeat of problem.

All I needed was proof of purchase, and obtained this from retailer Retrovision without problem even though unit was purchased in Sept 2004.

Hope this helps.

Electrical smell

The most common cause of electrical smell on these units is from the compressor start relay. Get behind the fridge and remove the cardboard cover at the bottom. The relay plugs onto the compressor. See if the smell is stronger there. Also listen for it to try and start the compressor. If it just humms and clicks off, the relay is probably shorted out and needs replacing. Do not let anyone put a "fit all" relay on it, some of them will work ok for a while but cause a compressor failure a few months down the road.

If the relay is ok, check the icemaker area. A burned icemaker module will sometimes give off a foul odor.
Post back if you have any questions.
