I just recently got a used whirlpool top freezer unit and it is not seeming to kick on like it should. Some days it works perfect and other days the fridge is barely cold and freezer has things in is that are beginning to thaw. If you turn the temp knob all the way down then back up it seems to kick it back on then its fine for a while. Today I can not get the fridge to kick on at all. Once turning knob freezer started chilling again but nothing in fridge, Any ideas..this sound like fixable problem??? THANK YOU!!!!

I have a whirlpool WVG301 freezer and have just had a similar problem with my freezer not freezing and all my food spoiling. Open the plastic cover at the top front above the door. In side is a timer which controls the automatic defrost mechanism. On top of this timer is an adjuster. This timer seemed to get jammed. Give it a slight turn with a screw driver and your compressor might just kick in and work again like mine did!!! Hope this helps?
Difficult call there as whirlpool has a strange manor especially with the larger units. I had a callout on a double door whirlpool unit once and the compressor wouldn't come on but i couldn't find anything wrong. Anyway, i decided to leave the fridge untl the next day giving it a chance to possibly come on. About 5 hours later the customer called and said unit running very well and no more problems. Basically leave on for a few hours and see. If no output then call a tech .The testing procedures need equipment and electrical info..
This may not be the problem now but by the sound of the malfunctioning unit, it could be in the future. The start device on some models of refridgerator for maytag and whirlpool have been recalled. If your appliance was manufactured in the last 5-10 years you may be having an issue with this component. Mine recently caught on fire at this device that is located near the compressor. If you would like to be a part of the petition for a recall on this appliance contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
It will only work for a few more months. You'll have to reset it a few more times. Eventually, even keeping it unplugged for a couple of days won't work. Have had ours 7 years -- and have had more than a dozen service calls on it. In the beginning, all was covered. No longer. Piece of **** is going out to the sidewalk on junk day. Will never buy another whirlpool or maytag product again.
Our crappy whirlpool fridge freezes stuff in the back of the refrigerator, while stuff comes out of the freezer a bit soft.
Model #106.8678213, The complaint was the refrigerator section was getting warm while the freezer seemed OK. The unit had been unplugged for a couple days and when I turned the unit back on, the cooling system worked fine, but I did notice a lot of water in the condensate tray which lead me to a possible defrost problem. Removed the access panel to the defrost timer and found the timer motor was not running. So basically what happened was the unit stopped defrosting and eventually built up enough frost and ice on the evaporator to block the airflow to the refrigerator section. Once the power was removed, the unit defrosted by itself and left the water in the tray. I replaced the defrost timer so now it will defrost every 8 hours like it was designed to. Now get back with me and see if the model number located on bottom kick plate it should be a number that Sears only uses. They use model numbers like this on everything and every brand. looks again like this sample ( 106.8678213 ) hope this helps, Sea Breeze
Your refrigerator will not accept nor was designed to use a whirlpool water filter. No a filter is not required. Yes an in line filter can be installed prior to the connection at the inlet valve if you desire.
