How to change the sap setting on the emerson tv if the cx is very old and about to die

The SAP setting generally is changeable in the initial set up procedure.

No Volume from cable input

The sound is probably set to the SAP channel (language) and the SAP channel is not active on the program you are watching. Just push the SAP button on the remote. The button might be labelled SAP or LANG. This will return you to the main sound channel which is always active.

HBO is in Spanish, other channels are English. How do you get HBO in English.

SAP IS : secondary audio program--if engaged certain channels will have audio in Spanish instead of English.

Both the set and any cable or sat box etc hooked up can cause this---check the audio mode on the TV first to make sure SAP is not selected. If not, check the box providing the signal to the set, it also has SAP.

If you cannot find the setting on the box you can unplug the box and it will in most cases revert to NO SAP or you can contact your provider for signal to learn how to change the setting.

The set does not cause this kind of problem--it is something set by accident wrong.

If this helped you rate this solution as "very helpful" as I do this here for free.

If you have questions feel free to comment here--I am here to help.

Use your remote control to check the TV SAP settings. This is "second audio program" and is often used to carry the TV sound in another language. If SAP is turned on you won't notice it unless you tune to a channel where the SAP signal is present. Most remotes have a single button to control the audio settings, so it's easy to turn the feature on without knowing it by bumping the button. Turn off SAP and you should be back to English.

I cant get SAP off the tv

Access your menu, and navigate through.

Look for the Audio option then something with the words "SAP" or "Secondary Audio Programming"
then, of course, change it to mono or stereo.

With your universal, press the "TV" button or the button you would press to have it communicate with your TV, then press menu or settings.

Hi Suezie,

The problem is most likely your SAP being turned On.

SAP was created for audio programing including translations into a 2nd language. On nearly all sets, the SAP being ON will essentially select an alternate audio stream and will de-select or mute the main audio from the channel your are viewing. However not all TV stations have SAP enabled.

I am the Chief Engineer of a TV station in Denver, CO. We are not using SAP so if you selected SAP while watching my station you would get noise or static. There would not be any audio there.

Go to the front panel of your TV and select the "MENU" function. Step through the menus to Audio features and De-select SAP or Enable your main audio and this should take care of the problem. Alternatively you might be able to unplug your set for a period of time and it would reset itself. I used to get calls from elderly viewers when the set wouldn't pick up the UHF TV stations anymore. These were always after a power failure and the set had defualted to factory settings,

Different set manufacturers use different menu schemes and withou a password feature, these menus are so simple a small child playing with those fascinating buttons can change them for you to something you really don't want.

Good luck and write back if you can't find it. The set manufacturer and model number would help me look up a menu tree for your TV set.

Thak you,
Bernarr Howell

Turning the sap off using my universal remote

If there are any menu setting buttons on the t.v. itself then I would try using them to find the sap setting.

No Sound on TV

I did not answer the original question you posed but the SAP is the acronym for Separate Audio Program and is used to provide spanish for instance on a show which is broadcast in both english and spanish. The problem is not all stations have audio on the SAP. If your audio processor is set to SAP and you switch to a channel which has nothing on SAP you loose audio. I'm guessing someone suggested this prior to this post. If you checked your TV and it is not on SAP that eliminates that. I would look at the audio circuit for problems. Either no power to the audion circuit, bad solder joints, blown output IC or possibly a blown speaker. I know the last one is remote but it does happen and it never hurts to check the simple problems first. Besides you aren't embarrassed later when you find out it was something simple. If you are going to check these issues out remember safety. Good luck.
