Theres no danger.its the residue from the gas.if using propane,it burns very dirty and leaves soot.if natural gas its the same but not as bad.you can simply just wipe them down with water but use an old rag because the soot is very dirty.if using an electric oven/burner the discoloration of the element is from the heat and is normal.also if the oven is gas the soot will eventually clog the holes/orfices in the burner and it will cause some issues.hopes this helps--let me know.

How do I swap the nozzles

Although converting the fuel in a typical barbecue is very simple it can create a very dangerous problem if done incorrectly. Many bbq companies do not permit fuel conversions because done with a know-it-all attitude instead of getting experienced, licensed assistance can be dangerous.
The "nozzles" are the gas orifices and the orifices have a small hole drilled to limit the maximum amount of gas flow into the burners. The orifices are almost always threaded to the tip of the control valve where the valve inserts into the burner venturi tube. Occasionally the valve will have an extension gas line between the tip of the control valve and the burner and in this instance the orifice will be at the end of the gas line where the gas connection slides into the burner.
This is the same in side burner range tops but in a side burner the orifice can usually be accessed by lifting the round shield and burner on the top of the side burner instead of following the gas line from the valve.

It doesnt heat evenly. Burners all fire perfectly, yet heat distribution is very hot in the center, and much cooler on the outer sides. This unit has 4 burners under grill. Any suggestions?

Tex, the other burners my be clogged, as well as the venturi valves. Remove the offending burners, inspect and clean them. That's usually the the problem, with what you described.

Hope this helps you. Happy Grilling!!

Right stove top burners won't ignite

Hello,
Your right side burners probably have small vertical lighting holes that are clogged where the pilot lights the burner. Use a sewing needle to poke each hole clean. While you're at it, poke clean the horizontal burner holes just to make sure they are not clogged either. Are there also little tunnels from the burners to each pilot flame? Make sure those are clean inside and attached properly on each end. The pilot flame should be approx 3/8" tall. Compare the working pilot flame to the non-working pilot flames and adjust as necessary. Each pilot has a small aluminum tubing running to it, the adjustment screw will be on this tube. You'll just need a small flat head screw driver to turn it counter-clockwise to increase flame. Hope this helps. Let us know if we can be of further assistance. Douglas

GE gas stovetop burner doesn't light

there are sparker modules on each burner behind the button, it may be that yours is failed, if you turn on other knob and you see spark at problem burner and still isn't lighting you have to make sure the black or grey tops are paced on perfectly, just give them a little nudge and you have to make sure area is perfectly clean for spark to take effect, spark will go for cleanest area on metal. so ensure area is clean and check burner top

Stovetop ceramic burner turned black and smooth

Do you have a proper ceramic top scraper ?, if not buy one (about £10 UK)

Get a bottle of cream cleanser and a plastic type pan scrubber

Soak the area with warm water , pour on some cream cleanser and work it in with the scrubber , when you have formed a nice creamy froth use the scraper to get underneath the scorching

It is a lot of hard work but it does come off

Spot on Jenn Air smooth cook top stove with down draft.

Use Cooktop Cleaner with a soft micro cloth. Don't use water. Buff until the mark disappears. Hint: Never clean the cooktop until it is completely cool to touch as doing so makes cleaning much harder. Never use abrasives on the glass or abrasive cast iron skillets.

My smooth top burner will not work

The #1 most likely problem is that you don't have 240 volts to the unit. Your clock and lights will come on but not the burners or the oven elements. Turn off your breaker and then back on. If this doesn't correct the issue...#2 Check your cord and the terminal where it attaches to the stove for a burnt connection, WITH THE POWER OFF!!! #3 Call a technician.

Smell of gas and question on cleaning

I recommend cleaning heavy cast burners with a wire brush. If for some reason, (moisture in gas), the burner holes are corroded and slightly clog, use a perfectly size drill, and clean the holes BY HAND. Do not use the power tool. Just twist the bit by hand.

Commercial equipment is designed to be under a hood. When installed in a residential application, I would very much expect for the unit to "smell". I would recommend taking the time or money to verify supply gas pressure, and install a regulator if needed. Most all supplies are higher than the equipment is spec'd for, so a regulator, that is properly adjusted, would help solve your issues. Also a reg would save you money on fuel through the years.
