Re: overscanning

On your remote control there should be a button that lets you change the screen mode, IE. Auto, Panorama, Cinema, Full, Normal, Zoom, etc...

How do I enter the service menu on an Emerson EWF2004 CRT Television? (Pictures of the OVERSCAN ISSUE will be provided if needed.)

Older sets had vertical and horizontal size controls. If you have the horizontal size control, turning it counterclockwise will reduce the size of the picture horizontally and reduce the overscan.

Too much overscan

If EHT is lesser than normal, this type of fault can occur. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" will make surf easy.

Late in day the picture on our 5 year old set starts to drop down to where we cannot see the bottom portion of the screen. Recently installed Comcast three-way service.Comcast insists it is TV problem.

What you can actually do is on your remote or within your menu options you should be able to set your screen size to standard, fill or overscan.

The picture has ''zoomed'' out. can't read text on scroll bars. fuz

Please try using the zoom button on a universal remote. The button on the remote may no longer be working. Otherwise the best way is to open the set and test each capacitor and transistor with a multimeter to see which ones if any need to be replaced.

Top picture overscan issue, again ...

Overscanned in the top of the screen,is the symptom defected capacitor in the vertical section. Filter capacitor 100uf or microfarad or it is better you replaced all capacitor there and reworks or resolder all solder joint there in vertical section. So it will works better again..

Correct overscan on kv-34xbr800

With TV off, enter the following on your remote:
Display > 5 > Volume + > Power now you are in service mode 2 & 5 will take you up and down categories 1 & 4 will take you up and down settings within categories 3 & 6 will change the data up or down
So press 2 until you come to the 2170D_2 category Press 1 until you get to HSIZ and change the data down to the required setting (different data registers for different width settings)
It could be more involved but this might do the trick in your case. Good luck!

Overscan is off a bit

Does's the set have a repair history? If it was previously serviced , the capacitor which is connected between the emitter and the collector of the horizontal output transistor transistor might have been changed with the wrong value, which would cause and overscan situation. The service menu for this set is even hard for technicians to use. It' my opinion if the service manual will not correct the horizontal width, the wrong capacitor was probably installed. Scrivitron (also these sets are known for the forementioned capacitor to short , flame or open.

My Picture is wider than the screen

How much wider are we talking about? It is normal for all TV's to be a bit overscanned anyway.
