Plays tape approx.10 seconds and then shut off power completely

I purchased this unit about 7 years ago and used it for about 1 year and worked great and then did not use it for about 3 years and then I wanted to use it again and now when I try to play a tape it plays the tape with excellent picture quality for about 10 seconds and then shuts off the power completely and then after turning on power to the unit again it ejects the tape and it says reject on the upper right corner of the screen. What is the problem?I have tried cleaning the head and oiling some of the mechanisms.Any ideas or solutions would be great....Thanks very much!!!

SOURCE: Philips DVP 3150V

Product is Philips model DVDR3435V DVD/VCR combo.

VCR movie plays for 16 seconds then disconnects/powers off. Same for every VCR tape played.

Vcr wont keep playing after 5 seconds

your unit is detecting the take up real is not rotating and the tape is protected from being caught in the mechanism, this is an easy repair in most cases, it is likely a take-up clutch or a real sensor problem, note that these days you can purchase a sutibale replacement VCR for quit cheep so spending more than 40 bucks for a repair may purchase you a new with 1 year

Set is 7 years old - it turns off intermintently

Ours used to do that - and then we moved it to another state with us. Since the move it doesn't shut itself off anymore. I suspect that the problem was dirt and dust inside which got knocked loose in the move and the shutdown was due to thermal limits being exceeded. You may want to try vacuuming or blowing out the dust inside if you feel comfortable opening up the unit.

VCR plays 15 seconds, TV shuts off. Same without tape inserted

Sounds like a typical Switched Mode Power Supply fault, or an internal thermal fault that is shutting down the power supply, over & over. Really you need to get it serviced. You need to get a firm "Quote" for repair, remember these days repair can often exceed replacement cost.

TV/VCR combo unit trying to eject non-existent tape

The problem is that the loading is out of timing by a tooth. This would explain both the attempt to load a non-existant tape as well as the unit shutting down. This unit needs to be disassembled and the belts replaced and the loading mechanism re-timed. I have done many of these with success. While time consuming because the entire unit must be taken apart, it is not a real difficult repair for anyone that has done them in the past. Where are you located so I can make a referral?

TV keeps shutting off after 10 seconds

It's possible from what you described that your center LED or prisim was broken when the tape was extracted. Like many others these units depend on a series of startup checks and one being the tape path. On the play table of the VCR is a center prisim/LED and two light sensitive diodes on either side of the tape loading assembly. If these diodes do not detect the infared beam the unit will go into shutdown. I'd check there and let me know. Bill

VHS problem, any help?

It sounds to me like you have a problem with the reel sensors not detecting movement of the tape through the VCR. This could also be caused by a defective voltage regulator(s) that powers the sensors. This model was made by symphonic/funai (1-800-242-7158), and it is not likely worth repairing.
