I didn't actually get what you mean by "earth disappears" If you mean that you are not able to power the cd player from the car, check the voltages on the wires with a meter and with a 12v bulb or such a load to confirm that voltage is actually coming. The live should show +12 volts permanently and the switch+live should show the same voltage when the ignition is switched on. If it doesn't show voltages, check the fuses and also earth wire connection. Good luck.

I have a 81 grand prix the radio wiring harness is not there thers just loose wires how do i fid the harness to hook the wires back up so i can add an after market harness and cd player

you need a volt meter and 9v battery. earth black contact from meter & then
  1. with ign off probe wire to find a live , thats the memory feed goes to yellow on radio
  2. with ign on probe wires that the constent live goes to red on radio
  3. when lights on probe wires thats the illumination feed (if fitted to car, but not used on many new radios
  4. then get 9v battery and with remaining wires pair and connect to battery, when speaker buzz's mark pair as they are ( ie front right rear left etc ) the speaker wires from the new radio are paired by colour ( one with black stripe with is the negative of the pair)
  5. there should be a ground/earth which if you cant find just hook one to the body/chassis

I need a radio wiring diagram for a 1985 Chevy C10 Silverado. I'm trying to install a brand new cd player and i just need to know where each wire connects. The new cd player conviently has the names on...

the norm is
you will need a volt meter and a 9v battery,
test all wires with meter to find a live with the ign switched off, ths is the live memory feed
the try again with the ign on, this is the switched live
there will be an earth/ground and light feed when you power the lights on.
when you do that to find the speakers
take a pair of remaining wires and place them on the 9v battery, work through the wires til you here a speeaker crakle, then continue till you find all speaker, that will allow you to hook up to a aftermarket unit,
or if you can get to a scrap car of the same year and type, cut the harness out and match up the wires :)

I am installing a kenwood cd player in my vw jetta. I can't get the cd player to turn off when I turn the ignition off???

Your Jetta has two power feeds, one is always live and one is switched.

Unfortunately the color of the wire sometimes varies by model or year so I can't tell you which one.

I assume you're using an aftermarket harness that you've spliced to the kenwood harness. If it came with documentation (the harness), it should tell you which feed is always live and which is switched. if not you can test the leads with a volt meter when the car is on and when it's off.

You most likely have your power line on the Kenwood deck hooked to the line that's always live. Find the switched line, and connect that one instead. Should work.

JVC car radio/cd player wont switch on

As a sanity check run a temporary wire directly from the battery positive to the radio. Twist the red and yellow wires together and connect it to the wire from the battery. If this works either your red or yellow wire connection under the dash or to the harness is not hot like you think. Yellow usually goes to a constant 12 volt source (to keep radio memory) and the red wire to 12volts when the ignition is on. In some radios this is reversed. The test I mentioned will determin if the problem is in the wiring or the radio.
